Topic Dog Boards / General / After some advice

hi all was wondering if anyone could give some helpful advice on the following problem.
First off i would like to say that i do not dislike any dog breeds (just wanted to make that quite clear..) however i have had a growing problem with my neighbours who only moved in about three months ago.
they are looking after a staffordshire bull terrier for 6 weeks whilst the owner is on holiday in aussy normally i dont have a problem with any other dogs around me but this one is im afraid, starting to become a real pain, i own two dogs myself a rough collie called lady and a springer spaniel called devon.
my poor little poppets can no longer go in there own backyard without being harrassed constantly by this other dog he continually barks growls, and jumps at the dividing fence panels ive been lucky so far he has not managed to get over the top but beleive me its not through want of trying, and when he finally gives up on going over the top he will try and dig up underneath.
I have to admit im at my wits end i have had two conversations with the neighbours in an attempt to resolve the situation,  but it appears to have gone in one ear and out the other... there resolve is they say he needs to go out and i quite agree but not 24hrs a bloomin day or whenever he hears my backdoor open.
my poor springer spaniel stands at the back door shaking not wanting to enter his own space anymore i have to accompy them both. for there peace of mind as well as my own so that i can make sure nothing happens.
any idears anyone...
thanks all, emm

not sure there is an answer apart from it's not for ever I guess !!!!  I have the same prob with new neighbours who have 3 little kiddies on school holidays my own kids are a bit older and play out but cos these are 5,6 and 8 they are in the garden from dawn till dust screaming and fighting ! can't be helped as they are kids but the dogs go mad ...all I can say is roll on September :)

im praying that by some miracle they may return early..lol
however if it were the noise alone i could live with it but it isnt its the fact that my springer is now a bag of nerves and the fact that one day he will get into the garden i can see it happening thats mainly what frightens me,
thanks emm

Hi Emm,

I know just how you feel, we had the same problem except the dog is a bullmastiff x rottweiler   all was fine while he was a cute pup but as soon as he was grown up he was banished to the backgarden 24/7 and we couldn't even talk inside our own house or go in the garden.  Like yours my dog was a bag of nerves (so was I, my small child was at risk too) thinking this giant maniac was going to get in any second, you could see the fence leaning more and more as he threw himself at it   So I bought a clicker and some dried tripe/ beef and started to clicker train him while his owner was in work (he'd had gone mental if he'd known ) and now the dog is quiet while we are in the garden/house and doesn't react to my dog at all, he only starts now if there are strangers about - which is fair enough.  It didn't take long for him to get the idea, the hardest part was waiting for him to calm down enough for me to reward him the first few times, after that he learned really quick ;)

Don't know if this will help in your situation, but it may be worth a try.

Regards
Dill

What a good idea - training the neighbour's dog!!!  Just wonder though ...would you be able to train the neighbours' kids?? :D

Don't know about that - I've never managed to successfully train my own  my dog is much better trained ;) - I've always wondered why kids are allowed in shops but dogs aren't :D

At least the parents allow them to play in the garden.  Where I live the kids are out on the street as soon as they start nursery  people round here think we're mad because our six year old is only allowed to play outside the garden if we are there to keep an eye :(

But have you tried clicker training the kids? ;) :D
