How do you get chewing gum out of the fur on a dogs foot?

Sorry if that sounds like a daft thing to say but Bailey has somehow managed to get chewing gum in the fur on one of his back feet - i have picked the worst out  but there is still some left :(

Any suggestions please

Thanks

Tracy

Stain Devil do a liquid which will remove gum from hair I've used it, apart from that and putting the foot in the freezer I don't know. Jackie H

Try freezing it with an ice cube and then it will become brittle and break off :-)

Leigh,

Have you ever tried to hold an ice cube on an 19 week old puppy's foot before? - i tried this & it would have been very entertaining if anyone had been watching! :D :D :D

I didn't say it would be easy now did I :D

I did hear that peanut butter has something in it that dissolves chewing gum, but I have no idea how you get the peanut butter out of its coat after the gum is dissolved .....lol

Have fun!

Shame you didn't have a camera. Is it possible to trim the fur a little to get the rest out ? This may be a daft suggestion as I don't know how long the fur is.

Hes a lab so not very long!

Might get hubby to have a go tonight then I can have a good laugh!:D And could try & make some money and to video it & send it in to 'You've been framed!' How much do they pay now?

Oh well might just have to wait till it sets properly & cut it off so he has one bare foot!!:D

Now thats a thought - if i cut the foot off (the dog that is :) ) it couldn't happen again! Mind you don't spose you see many three legged gun dogs do you? :D Oh well better go back to plan A with the ice!

If you did cut the foot off you could then put it in the freezer so you could then get the gum out (see problem solved ) :d
methalated spirit helps remove it & in a small amount should not harm the dog if he licks it

Someone posted a message on the Griffy forum today and I remembered Tracey's query a couple of days ago. The message read:
My dogs all appreciate toddlers. They have found that
the toddlers are messy eaters and station themselves
at the base of the high chair. Their eagerness to
hoover the floor and/or children sometimes gets them
in trouble - mainly something stuck in their fur like
chewing gum or taffy. I found out years ago, always
have a jar of peanut butter on hand to eat and to
remove unwanted sticky objects (especially chewing
gum)from the kids or your dog's coat. Just rub a
little peanut butter into the tangle and voila! the
gum can be removed without cutting!

I've no idea if it works or not,

Well its gone - we ended up using a little bit of white spirt as he also decided it would be a really good idea to help with the painting and got whit gloss paint on his tail! :D And then he had a lovely bath and then promtly rolled in the mud! :D

Is white spirit safe to use on dogs?

My dog got a bit of paint on his paw and I cut it out. I didn't realise I could have used white spirit.

I watered it down first a bit then washed it out really well and he dosn't seem to have come to any harm - BUT it was just the tip of his tail (that he thought would make a very good paint brush :D) and one toe.
