Does anyone know if there are any of these in the UK, or if they have any sort of recognition here?

There were some imported and bred from I beleive a few years ago, but I think problems of a health and fertility nature were encountered.  There haven't been any registered recently, and I don't know if the people introducing the breed have given up on the idea.

I note from the KC standard that the interim standard was datede 1994.  I would imagine that they are on the import register,a nd they ahve been classified in the hound group.

It is a breed I was interested in some years ago and was told then there were health problems, not sure what but they did not live very long. That in its self is surprising as they are a smallish dog and a spitz, most spitz are know to be very healthy and trouble free. Anyway I never did get to the bottom of it, whether it was only those that were imported that had problems or if the breed as a whole are short lived. In the end I gave up the idea as health problems I can do without.

A pity there's none over here as they look like really nice little dogs. I just saw them on TV a couple of days ago and was fascinated, I couldn't believe it when its owner stretched its head right back to touch its withers! They're definately a unique breed.

The main strange thing about them is the extra toes of all feet.

They are in the daily mail today in a list of the 30 worst things. And a lady from dogs today said they are the worst dog because of heath problems. They can also close their ears to stop things going into them.

I remember seeing some not long after they were imported to this country & was really disappointed. They were sort of "spindly" for a Spitz breed & didn't seem to have much character either. Remember reading that they had some hereditary problem which meant they were no longer going to be bred in this country.
