If all goes to plan, I shall be sending a pup over to Belgium in November. My son is going over for the show and will be taking her. She will be just UNDER 3 months. I seem to be going round in circles about requirements. The Belgium embassy say if pup is for'trade' it will not need pet passport, just health certificate from pet. Defra seem to think ALL pups regardless of age need passports. My person in Belgium who has very broken english is also going round in circles and has been told different things. In Belgium rabies can be given at 8 weeks. My vetsays it cannot be given under 3 months and then you have to wait for the blood test. I would not wish to send the puppy  unacompannied so if I can sort out for Adam to take her it would be better all round. Does anyone have any advice.
Thanks

Just a thought, when they travel ,the documents are checked at Dover/ Calais so presumably has to meet french requirements too.

I would check with DEFRA again, making it clear that the pup is being exported, and not coming back into the UK.  Whilst the new pets passports are to allow free movement of animal throughout Europe (sort of) I think our restrictions are still a lot more strict.  We have frequently send dogs/pups to mainland Europe, and all they need is the Health Certificate - unless they are coming back to the UK, of course.

It is very simple, although it seemed very daunting, the only problem we had was DEFRA not sending the certificate to our vets in time, so I had to collect it by hand. Pup was 8-9 wks, microchipped and vaccinated, her new parents collected her, apparently they did not even look at the paperwork   As Gwen says things only get complicated if she would be coming back to the UK.

Thanks
defra rang back and all they say we need is a new Pet passport , health certificate, microchip but without rabies as it will be too young. If the pup is born a couple of days early it will be over 3 months though. i spoke to someone with quarantine kennels who said it is 'better' if over 3 months as then i can get rabies vaccination too but the time span beteween birth and travelling to show is so tight. Pups due on sat and travelling to show on November 12th.
