Hi there,

Just been watchin bbc news, and there was a article about show dogs having botox injections and plastic surgery in Brazil. Only for show dogs, so the dogs have to go through all that pain, just so the owner can win a rosette or a cup, its sickening the lengths people will go to.

Did anyone else see it?

Oh, and you can give your dog a face lift. So that they look prettier for the judges. People found doing it will be banned from all dog shows.

thats SICK! I dont understand the attraction of dog shows as it is, but to go to those lengths just to win prizes is awful! :-(

Hope they weren't giving the botox to a shar pei     Botox, facelifts for dogs!!!  can people really be that desperate for a rosette??  don't they know you can order them by the thousands?? - if they really are that desperate :(

This is a sad state of affairs but in my opinion its no worse than the people breeding some of the freaks we see in the show ring today that have all these health problems, I blame the judges and the breeders. Its beyond belief it really is.  I dont know that anybody could justify some of the sad sad states we see not only in the show ring but in pet homes today, its a sin.

You said how can people be that desperate for a rosette - just look at the state of the English Bulldog and Pekes to name a couple  - that is how desperate people are for rosettes they give little or no thought to the breeds welfare, if they did the dogs clearly wouldnt be as they are today!

i agree about bulldogs and other short nosed breeds irish bull, I think its time breeders thought about what would be best for the health of their dogs.
As a n example, the shar pei is one breed which has benefitted from breeding AWAY from, rather than TOWARDS bizarre looks, I saw some nice shar peis at the weekend, they had a lot less wrinkles than the original shar pei which came into this country, and their eyes could be more clearly seen for starters! and IMO breeding to try and REDUCE health problems/breathing difficulties/skin problems instead of ENHANCING them can only be a good thing!!
