Hello
I recently brought a lab pup, who is almost ginger/red in colour shes beautiful, but is this colour alloud, my friends seen to think ive been fooled by the breeder and paid a lot of money for a non standard colour!
secondly
why do chocolate labs have more health complications than blacks or yellows??
MY friend bred a litter last year, 6 out of 12 died, this year 5 died, one with a backwards heart!

To answer your first question no her colour is fine, yellows can and do range from cream to what is described as 'fox red' and very beautiful it is too.
Second question, not sure it has anything to do with the colour but more to do with the fact that unethical breeders have jumped on the band wagon to try to cash in on the present fashion accessory, the owning of a chocolate Lab. And people who know nothing about breeding healthy dogs nor anything about breeding quality browns are having a go with their mind set only on their bank balance. Well that is my impression but guess people who own the breed will come on with a more scientific explanation, my view is that there did not seem to be a problem when they were called liver and the popularity, temperament and may be health problems seems to have occurred since the liver became chocolate.
