One of my bitches has been stung on the mouth by a wasp - I've given her Piriton, but is there anything else anyone can suggest?  I think I'll have to go and clear up the fallen apples; the dogs keep eating them and the wasps are hiding inside having a feast!

Dab the sting with vinegar. It neutralises it.

Depends how bad it is. Our older dog was stung last night on the mouth. I checked his mouth regularly to make sure that it wasn't swelling - but it didn't seem to bother him after about 1/2 an hour. Try giving her some icecubes, if she will eat them.

Can't think  that it's too much of a problem as long as the airway isn't affected.

Remember the old rhyme:- Bicarb for bees, vinegar for vasps! One's sting is acid the others is alkaline so to put the wrong one on will make it worse.

Cut an onion in half and rub it on will help both types of sting so if I'm not sure which stung this is what I use.

Yes, except I couldn't remember which when I was stung by a hornet - biggest d*mn thing I ever saw   It did nothing to help my phobia of wasps I can tell you, and it hurt like h*ll for days :(

Mind you it was funny - the shop assistant thught I had touretts cos I shouted and swore so much (not BAD words) so my little angel Trollgirl said "its ok - she's been stung and she's got Touretts"   Kids!!

Thanks all of you for your advice.  She was very swollen, but the swelling has gone down now and she seems fine.  I could never remember which way round the bicarb and vinegar went, but I won't forget now - thanks John!

As I cannot be fagged remembering rhymes I tend to use Apis Mel, homeopathic remedy available from chemists preferably 30c but 6c will do; useful for all types of stings; not insect specific :D

I always have a bottle of Benedroyl childrens liqued in the drawer, as well as helping with any allergic reaction it stops shock setting in. Viv
