Hello everyone
I have'nt been on the board for a while so forgive me if this topic has been discussed already.
I took Buddy to the vet tonight to weigh him and pick up Drontal plus wormer tablet. Vet does'nt sell drontal anymore but have a new one called Milbemax. They say it does the same but is slightly cheaper.
Has anyone out there had experience of this wormer.

PS If anyone remembers my job/dog problem go to general page as i've solved the problem and will tell you about it.

I've used the Milbemax twice now with my dogs and they have been fine - no adverse effects at all.
Is there a reason why vets dont sell Drontal anymore? just wondered.. :-)

I buy my Drontal plus off the net, about 1/2 the price my vet would charge me!

Does it need a vets prescription ?

Hi Lel no a prescription isn't required to buy wormers on the net :)
Milbemax comes from the same family of drugs as Ivermectin so I would not use it on my collies.Gillian
Hi
I'm really happy with Milbemax too....my hound used to get sick after Drontal. Also, Milbemax lasts her 6 months rather than the 3 monthly requirement of Drontal.

I have tried milbemax for the last two times and the other day i noticed WORMS in their poo I have two dogs so i dont know which one it is as they both seem fine and dandy at the moment so i am having to inspect them both untill im sure they are both ok. They was on drontal before and it was my vet who suggested i try milbemax as it only involed 1 tablet per 25kilo and a little cheaper so this seemed appealing. However they never had any problems with drontal so i have changed back. They were not due for another three weeks to be wormed however i have given them drontal yesteday so fingers crossed.
jo-basset i am surprised that you only give your dog every 6 months all the info i got about milbemax told me 3-4 months and thats from their website.
Sonny....I did read your concerns last night -Thank you. However, I waited until this morning to contact the surgery, who have again confirmed that Milbemax on a 6 monthly basis is "more than adequate", giving reference to the size/weight/age ratio.

I changed Alfiie from Drontal to Milbemax and Drontal didn't agree with him at all. Since we've been on Milbemax have had no problems.
