My niece had hers fittednot quite 2 weeks ago, top and bottom - they have little pink flowers on them! She was in some discomfort at first, with a little sore spot on each side of her mouth where the brace rummed against the area above the top lip,but its fine now - and my sister noticed yesterday that the fornt teeth have already straightened noticeably - not crossing over at all now! Good luck
bye

My daughter is only 10 and has a fixed top and bottom appliance. absolutely no problems for her whatsoever, she is careful what she eats and drinks and is very disciplined to how much sugar she consumes. Apart from that no other restrictions. She has broken it once, biting into a nectarine as she caught the stone of all things! Never hurts her even when she has it tightened. She loves it and as a previous post said the difference in your teeth will be almost instantaneous. Her teeth already look straight, although she has to have it on for two years approx. the gaps where she had her extra teeth took out are slowly filling too by the teeth being pulled back. I'm sure you will be fine and just think of the end result it will be worth it.

My daughter had the train tracks, only for 9 months (she was told originally 2 years too) and they worked miracles, she has lovely straight teeth now, she does still have a wire behind her front teeth top and bottom, which she has to have for as long as possible.
You'll soon have a lovely perfect smile :-)

8 teeth out..ouch...my son has the opposite problem. He has teeth missing(never developed) and is going to have a brace fitted to pull the teeth into position so that he can have a metal plate inserted into his gum(both sides) and attached to the jaw so that he can have a tooth screwed into it.

I had a brace, not a fixed one although they originally said i would need one.... to start with i had one that had something on the bottom that hooked onto my bottom teeth to pull my jaw forward (as well as being a proper brace up top) and that was really hard to talk with, and then i got just a normal removable one.........They didn't hurt although were a little uncomfortable when they tighten them.
Word of advice though, if you have a removable one, take it out to eat! - my dentist told me too but i had a friend who didnt and lets just say it wasnt pleasant hehe

My daughter had to have a removable brace first when she was younger and she tempered, gaagged, choked, said she wouldnt wear it, i told her it was up to her and didnt make a fuss, eventually she got used to it, then she had to wear a fixed brace, she is 19 now and has the most beautiful teeth, makes me wish i had braces when i was younger.
