Hi, i was wondering whether Presa Canario or is it Canary Dogs exist in Britain, i was under the impression they were under the dda, im considerung getting a new dog and would love something very different, such as a canary dog, i heard there is a small presa care home in brighton, is this correct?

guest presa canarios are not under the DDA, and yes there are several breeders in the UK. we own 2 of these wonderful dogs, in the right hands they make excellent family dogs, but like all large breeds they need lots of space, training and chilled out owners who dont mind a bit of hair and slobber to decorate their homes! :-)

Yes there are some in the UK, no they were in the dda (I think) and I do not know about the care home, sounds quaint, can imagine a number of elderly mastiffs sitting around knitting whilst listening to the Salvation Army choir. As with all these breeds that were imported into the country and then became popular you have to be very careful from whom you buy your pup, hence the need for the care home I would think and I have heard of them in rescue. Have also seen some nice examples of this impressive dog.

There are quite a few Presas in Scotland now too,sandra.

i have never heard of the home in brighton for presas.
i wouldnt suggest getting one of these dogs unless you have had experience in large molosser type breeds.

yes we got ours from a breeder from glasgow. the parents were import stock.

Actually the law states 'pitbull types' I believe and even if a dog is a  staff if it were deemed to be pitbull type it could be seized under the DDA

That is of course true Archer and I sometimes wonder if that is the reason for some of the bull breeds that have become so popular of recent years. A sort of macho substitute for something lacking in some of the owners lives or may be they just like to live dangerously through their dogs, although of course if it comes to the crunch it is the dog that suffers.

Just wondered why people feel the need to search out this type of dog?

There must be some kind of inadequacy on the part of the owner to need a 'macho' or 'rare' dog.  Get a bloody labrador :)

Maybe some people dont want a labradour, i mean you couldnt get anymore boring if you tried really, althoug ive never heard of this breed being in Britian, apparently there very aggressive or something??????, dont no much about them, theres a bit about them in my dog encyclopedia though, says there excellent guard dogs and similiar in apparence to Cane Corso, ive seen Cane Corso before but never a presa.

Someone tell me how long the school holidays are, and do you think I can hold out long enough ;)

Boring??? What world do you live in? Incidentally Bull boy, it is Labrador not Labradour. I think I would far rather have my Labradors any day.

if someone wants a rare breed of mastiff then why should they get a labrador instead? sorry but I dont think everyone who wants a big dog wants it for the "wrong" reasons, thats a bit of a sweeping statement!! it would be like saying only yobbos want bullmastiffs or only little old grey ladies have yorkies!!! :-) lol you  cant pigeon hole people like that, its very prejudiced!

Yes, they are VERY boring, when people babble on about labs i just find myself falling asleep, nothing unique or special abou them, same as goldies, never the less im very aware there lovely dogs and can see why there popular, there just not my preference.

If your talking to me Timhere im not like that, i love bull breeds but i used to own Cavaliers so i dont live up to the charecter portrayed by many, i just dont like labs and stuff, i like spitz breeds and the bull breeds and many of the toys

Well i am not that sort of person BUT i do love my bull breeds and my rare corsi
we cant all have the same breed But these breeds are not for novice owners/first time owners of large dogs...I was born into a family of dog/showers GSD's /Labs/Great Danes  /breeders/shooting gundogs and when old enough worked at a lot of different kennels that's how i learnt, why dont people do that any more.It was the same with horses i had my own when growing up but also worked in racing/show jumping/and ran a riding school that is the best way to learn.

I dont think I have ever found any dog boring - the owners, however, are a different matter!  Someone can be rude, thougthless, or just plain irritating, regardless of the breed they own or admire!

Everyone there are new kids on the block,by the sound of it they like the dogs that make um look hard,even though they are as docile as you make them,just like our Labs.

Some dogs I would not wish to own, and some I would not even wish to meet, but I would not think of myself as a dog lover if I found any animal boring, people yes, but dogs never. It is clear this poster is trying to wind us all up so I for one will find something else to do, may be walk my boring dogs :)
