Hi all
as I said on another thread I have never done a stakes class before but am filling out my entries for a couple of shows at the min and am thinking about having a crack.
Can someone please tell me how things work....if you are busy at the breed ring when the class is called what do you do?
Thanks

If your ment to be in two classes at the same time you can talk to the stewards and most will wait (depends on who the judge is/how time is going!  You can always "jugel" between clases!!!!

If you are showing in the breed ring when the stakes class is called, check at the stakes ring to see if the class is still in progress once you have finished in the breed ring. If it is going on then you must ask permission from the ring steward to join the class. Make sure you tell them that you were held up by breed judging. They can refuse, but they usually don't.

Thanks.
What happens if you are in a stakes class and the breed judging starts?

Breed classes MUST take priority. If I remember correctly, dogs MUST be shown in a breed class for the Stakes class award to stand! I think there may be "some" exceptions to that, but not many, e.g. Champions/ veterans etc.

It has only happened to me once, and I told the steward that my breed had been called and may I leave the stakes ring and she asked the judge to judge me next and then I went to the breed ring who as it happened had not started judging, there is always a jab between the breed being called and judging to start. So make sure someone in your class knows that you are going to the stakes ring and will return if you hear the breed called and would they tell the breed steward you are on your way.

Think the worse is if you do the breed class and win it and then go to the stakes class and you worry yourself to death that you will miss the challenge or that another member of your breed will beat you in the stakes class, but I have always found that someone will come looking for you and that the judge and other exhibitors are happy to wait, well they do anyway, and I just smile and say sorry to keep you and thanks for waiting.

Do remember though that if you are beaten in the stakes you are no longer an unbeaten dog and I think you should ask the steward to inform the judge as just imagine if you go on to win either BOB or BP only to be unable to go into the group, if there is one, because you are no longer an unbeaten dog, because of this I think a lot of people withdraw from stakes if they win their breed class.

This happened to me last year the stakes class was xalled before bitches were judged in our breed.  As my exhibit was not in ful coat I ddidn't rate my chances in the breed, so went in the Champion stakes, where I didn't get placed.

I then went on to win Open bitch in my breed classes, Bitch CC and Best Bitch, and Best of Breed, and as Jackie says couldn't rperesent the breed in further competition.  Now I forgo the class if the breed classes haven't been judged yet, unless it is with my puppy, as a puppy doesn't often win BOB.

Go on have a go :D  Our breed usually does quite well in stakes classes.

Houndshow was one such with Puppy bitch going to the breed,Champion bitches, and a second and fifth place in Junior stakes and a third in Open stakes.
