Topic Dog Boards / Health / Problems after Panacur?
- By Dill [gb] Date 07.08.04 22:21 UTC
Hi,  I've just started using Panacur to worm my dog and cat and I've been surprised at the reaction, very loose indeed :(  My dog can't have Drontal as he reacted very badly and was ill for days.  My bro said his pup was very squitty after panacur.  Is this normal?  Up to now I've used Nitroscanate tablets but they never caused a reaction even tho they are known to.  Panacur is supposed to be more gentle on the animal

Did you givbe it with or after food, as this helps.  Yes it does often make them loose, though not too badly if given on a fulls tomach.

Yep my dogs are loose after having panacur. It normal lasts for about a day or two.

Yes I gave it with a full meal, I was surprised they didn't refuse it really.  It was quite nasty diarrhoea - I'm not used to nasty smelly poos from my gang :(

Be very sure when you give Panacur, especially with pups that you accurately weigh your dog and measure the liquid.  With very young pups I tend to give fractionally (half a ml or so) under the recommended amount as then they don't get squitty

I always weigh and measure carefully - and always give as little less :( didn't help tho

Some retriever people have had major problems with Panacur using it for the second dose with puppies - seems to be OK with adults.

Think there's been a thread on it in the past, but can't do links!  :-(

I use Milbemax with my dog - have done since a pup with no probs at all. He too reacted to Drontal, but got this one from the vets, and he is fine with it - worth a try??
