We are currently having twice daily fun and games giving Leon eye drops as he has conjunctivitis. He wriggles around all over the place trying to avoid the inevitable and it takes ages. I am well aware that although he is big now he is only 7 months old so it probably won't be much fun trying to do this when he is fully grown if I don't practice plenty now!! I wondered if it would be sensible to continue to do it every day with water after we have finished the course until he is used to it. If so, should I try to clean out the squeezy drop thing the vet gave me or can I buy a clean one for this purpose?

I would say not to use water, (can be irritating) but get some normal saline...artificial tears from the pharmacy and definitely don't use the dropper which was used for conjuntivitis, just in case. The artificial tears will come with it's own. I don't think every day is needed either. Can you put them in his eyes more quickly before he knows what's happening and maybe not actually hold him down. All the big to do might be making it more difficult. I would just go up and do it fast. Of course, I'm picturing my dogs, and don't really know how your dog acts I guess. I think mine are so use to me doing other things, dremelling their nails, cleaning their eye tear stains, ear cleaning, ear posting/taping, (one cropped dog)brushing teeth etc so they just would figure this is just one more pain in the butt thing humans do to us dogs. U-g-g.

I have been trying not to make it a big deal, just having him sit and then turning his head slightly but as soon as he sees the drops he wriggles away and rolls on his back on the floor, pretending to get his teeth out. He will let me clean his eyes without any fuss and the same with his ears but he just seems to have a problem with the dropper bottle - that why I thought perhaps if I did it lots he would get over it and like you say, think it's just one of those pain in the butt things I do to him! Would you say once a week would be better?
