- By Guest [gb] Date 07.08.04 16:42 UTC
Is it true that Guide dogs show flatties? If so why? What lines? Can anyone tell me the pedigree names? Do these dogs win? Are they trained guide dogs or breeding dogs?
Not dissaproveing just wondering.

There have been one or two flatcoats bred by Guide dogs who have been shown - mainly up in scotland by there puppy walker - One who springs to mind was Guidwell Carli (A liver) who was shown whilst being puppy walked to go into training (i think) and did relativley well placing regulalry at champ shows and qualifying for crufts, rather than going onto training she came to the midlands to become a brood bitch, and unfortunatley doesnt seem to be shown any more, although I may be wrong as I havnt been round the breed ring recently.

Hope that helps

Hi Andrew, I'll try & answer your q's.
Is it true that GD's show flatties? yes there is one GD breeding bitch that is shown.
Why? Because she is a quality bitch & has been successfully shown.
What lines? She is GD breeding
Pedigree names? Guidewell...........
GD's or breeding stock? - she is a breeding bitch.
- By Smudgley [gb] Date 07.08.04 16:57 UTC
Heather is correct & Carli has just come off a litter of 11 pups, & is sitting by me as I type!  :)
- By Smudgley [gb] Date 07.08.04 16:59 UTC
Just for the record incase anyone is wondering - Carli's entry fees are not paid for by GD's.  :)
- By het [gb] Date 07.08.04 17:04 UTC
Nice to here of Carli - as I no we watched her in the rings when she was younger!
Oooh? was this a pure flatcoat litter? as it sounds like we may be having a gd fcr pup coming up to our training club in the next week or so - and i doubt theres more than 1 litter around!

Yes. She was mated pure this time & had 11 liver pups.
They are the only pure GD FCR's around at the present time.
They are the "H" litter.
They are beautiful.
Are you from Scotland Het?
- By het [gb] Date 07.08.04 17:14 UTC
If thats the case i will be interested to see the pup if it comes to training - were they all black or were there some livers as well (getting very nosey now!)

Im in Wariwckshire - with 2 flatcoats of my own who have been shown, with one of them a similar age to Carli
- By Smudgley [gb] Date 07.08.04 17:18 UTC
Theywere all liver this time.

Warwickshire eh? Cool! :) Not far from me then. I'm in West Mids, but work at GD's in Warwickshire.
- By het [gb] Date 07.08.04 17:23 UTC
I that must mean a liver stud as well then! was it a guide dog own stud or an outside one?

Nope not to far, and im not to far from both the warwickshire centers either and infact a few years a go even did my work experience with school at one of them! And we have several GD staff coming to our training club!
- By Smudgley [gb] Date 07.08.04 17:38 UTC
An outside liver stud was used & a handsome fella he is too.
Ooh I might know you if you did W.E at GD's. I work at the Tachbrook one.

OK - a bit of detective work here - I reckon if you live between both centres & you have GD people go to your club - I think your club is the Lillington one? Am I right?

I used to go there too  :) many moons ago.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 07.08.04 17:49 UTC
I used to take my lot to ringcraft at Lillington ... ! Was that when Adrian was running it, or later when it seemed to be a Gordon setter speciality?
- By het [gb] Date 07.08.04 17:56 UTC
The ring craft is not so gorden settery now - although the gorden people are still around!
- By Smudgley [gb] Date 07.08.04 18:04 UTC
I had a career break from 1996-1999 when I had my children so I wasn't there in 98.

I can't remember who did the ringraft but Jackie used to do the obedience when I went. (about 1992-1995)

Small world isn't it?
- By het [gb] Date 07.08.04 18:19 UTC
Yep a very small world!

We would have started going to the Club in about 98 with our oldest flatcoat - who turned 7 yesterday - doest time fly!

If thats Jackie with the Labs, shes still there, and I know her daughter ofter lurks on here as well!
- By het [gb] Date 07.08.04 17:54 UTC
You couldnt say who you used could you!

I did my work ex at Tachbrook! although will have been a few years ago now - in about 98!

Yep i train with leamington - who are still at lillington!  well used to train - i now just go up and talk, as I have now retired my oldest flatcoat - and the youngster (well 4!) doesnt do much much either at the moment

so who the liver dad of the pup and are the pups going into training as well.
- By Smudgley [gb] Date 07.08.04 18:45 UTC
The dad is not shown.

Yes all the pups have just gone to their puppy walkers & they will all go in for training unless some are accepted onto the breeding programme. :)

Hi Smudgley,

Do you know Bonnie, black FCR brood bitch, had a litter last year?  I know she now lives somewhere around the Midlands area but not sure where.  She was puppy-walked at Colchester.
- By Smudgley [gb] Date 08.08.04 08:00 UTC
hi - yes I know Bonnie - she is full sister to Carli but not litter sister. She has just been mated again & will soon be scanned. She is a lovely dog & has just passed her canine good citizen gold.  :)
- By briedog [gb] Date 08.08.04 10:03 UTC
can you tell us who the dad is,it is intesting as there not that many liver males around, and he got to be laid male to but in a breeding progamme for the gd
- By JoFlatcoat (Moderator) [gb] Date 08.08.04 17:03 UTC
Three pups from the litter by Noof out of Lambton Jambo Binti went to Guide dogs - if anyone has any news of them I would love to know.  They'd be two years old now.

Jo - What were the pups names - do you know & I'll let you know how they are doing.
- By Montys Mum [gb] Date 09.08.04 15:06 UTC
Glad to hear that Bonnie's doing well. :) Monty and her used to exchange kisses every week at obedience training classes. :D
