Our 10 month lab has not eaten anything for two full days. He had diahorrro...diarrhooeoeooehehheeo...a runny bottom to start with, but now (presumably as there's nothing to pass!) is just doing tiny amounts, brightly coloured and foul smelling. Mmmmm, nice! I took him to the vets yesterday who checked his temp (fine) and for tenderness in the stomach (fine) and gave him an antibiotic injection. He is no better this morning. I will return him to the vet tomorrow if he's not any better then, but is this cause for concern or not - anyone any ideas?

The possible causes are practically infinite e-coli, giardia, campylobacter, parvo, salmonella etc etc etc the list is endless. Not eating in a labrador is, IMHO, something to be very concerned about. Hopefully he is drinking?
He didn't drink much the first day but today seems normal. He has been much bouncier today. He is now hungry and has wolfed down some boiled chicken and rice, though his 'movements' aren't any better...
Glad to hear he is making a recovery, think there must be a bug going around cos both my dogs were exactly the same but have started to improve now too. I gave them some porridge yesterday and manged to get some fluids in they seemed to perk up a bit then.

Hi,
Don't forget because he hasn't been eating only give him small amounts and build very slowly from there, even its just 2 small meals a day then 3 til you get him feeding how were before and only bland food like your chicken, white fish, rice.
Too much too soon will give him diarrohea all over again just take your time.
With my goldies if this happens I starve them for a day or so just plain water let their digestive system settled or just few dry biscuits to keep nausea at bay. Then follow proceedure above they will obviously bolt food down because they are hungary but don't be tempted then to offer more until the next feed time:-)
It could take a week or even touch longer to get back to normal eating pattern.
Hope he feels better soon.
Briony :-)
Thanks everyone - he is much better now and yes Harriet the vet said she thought it was a bug and she'd seen lots of dogs with it.
He is still worrying at his bottom though - lots of vigorous licking. What causes that and is it anything to worry about?
