All evening long our landline phone has been ringing and when I answer it I get a voice telling me that I have been sent a text message from a certain mobile number.  It doesn't actually give the message (a la answermachine when nobody actually leaves a message), says it will repeat it again, beeps then tells me that if I want to hear the message again I should contact a certain mobile number.  I don't know the mobile number it comes from and daren't phone the mobile number to hear it again incase I get charged £1.50 a minute or something silly.  I have had about 12 phone calls since 7pm.

Any suggestions anyone?

Trollgirl often sends me a text message to my BT landline.  It always reads the message automatically ;)

Personally I think you're right to be cautious.  In your position I would make a note of the number/s and give them to your local Trading Standards office.  They are the people who deal with these scams.  The number of calls should also be recorded - thats a lot of calls and sounds as if its meant to pressure you into calling back.

Mmmmm

id be VERY suspicious.

I discovered, accidentally, that texts could be sent to BT landlines (if you have the 1571 feature) because my dippy friend Candy sent me a text to the home fone rather than the mobile.
It reads it out, all computery, and much amusement can be gained from sending it rude messages......

You didnt need to know that last bit im sure.
