Hi Madstaff- is this Mildred ?
we have the opposite problem. Libs will go in the cage no problem ( never dirties etc) but when
she decides its time to get up she screams like a banshee until you let her out

I have only been leaving her when i walk george when i get back she screams the house down

Do you leave your other staffie in the same room as her? im wondering if that would help

Hi I have an 8 week old pup "Tess" and she cried/screamed the first night then the second about 20 minutes and since then not at all. Admit I don't put her in a cage at night, she sleeps on her own my other Staff in another room, Tess stays in her bed not moving till we wake up.
The question is when was your pup screaming? all the while you were out;or just when you came back into the house? If the first then I would make sure she is okay and leave her to scream (Staff pups as adults can be stubborn) If the second then she is just "telling" you she is "there/here" when you come back from a walk. Hard but as it has only started and you want her to stay in the cage and alone then pesevere.
My thinking is I want two dogs who can stay on their own not that their good behaviour is dependant on the other dog being there.

She starts screaming before we leave and is still doing it when we get back.
She goes out to relive herself just before we go to bed, her cage is a croft one for a border collie sized dog she looks lost in there!
I left george in the kitchen with her last night (she was in her cage) no screaming untill 7am
She had still done a wee in there although she went for a wee and a poo before she went to bed at 1am
After four years we got another pup. She was different to our boy who never screamed, but our girl does and she lets you know she is awake.
We had her in a crate and she hated it, she did everything in the crate so that we would have to take her out of it. We kept her out of the crate for a few weeks, and then introduced a bigger on, placed where she could see her other companion sleeping. This helped a lot.
I don't have your breed but I know they are very clever and you might just need to firm. Is the crate big enough, and is the dog given enough chance to relieve itself before settling down for the night?

Hi Madstaff
no, Gus sleeps upstairs with us and Libs in her crate in the living room- at night time :)
During the day if we need to go out they stay in the same room although Libs is crated as she is a chewer but Gus isnt.
She tends to be ok during the day - is ok at night too - its just when SHE decides she wants to get up in the morning.
I hurry down incase she wants the loo but, everytime she is lying down just looking at me when i lift her cover as though to say "o hello mum- whats up" :D
