Topic Dog Boards / General / Should i pay him?

Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum and i am really sorry to bother you with this problem.
Four weeks ago my bitch had her first litter, she had gone way over her due date, and i wanted her to try to self whelp, however because she had gone way over, our vet induced her within seconds of driving away of the vets car park she gave birth to the first puppy in our car, we quickly drove back to the vet as i noticed the puppy had a cleft palate and a hare lip and i know this sounds nasty but my husband wanted the puppy to be pts, to allow our bitch to concentrate on the rest of her expected litter, we pulled up back onto his car park and he said "i dont really care bring the puppy back in 10 days to be checked as you could be wrong about it" now i know what a cleft looks like when i see one.
Anyway he refused jumped in his car and drove off, so we went home with the puppy and rang an emergency vet to get her looked at but she had not just got a cleft palate, and a hare lip, she also had a jaw which had not properly fused together, and also a hernia in her tummy which was quite obviously causing her pain.
The emergency vet that we saw was quite discusted as to what we had been through, and said we shouldnt pay our normal vet any more money, as he obviously had not taken proper care of our bitch, and was not that bothered about the puppy with the cleft.

However we have just recieved a bill for the all round one off charge that he quoted us for the care of our bitch and her pups (which he never ended up doing anyway!) i had no argument about paying him to induce our bitch which was paid on the day he induced her, but i feel he should not have any more money from us as he simply even refused to even take a look at the puppy with the cleft. If i need to pay him the outstanding money he feels he is owed then i will, but i just need some advice about this as i feel let down by him.

If you feel that you have cause to complain you should put it in writing to the vet and if you do not receive a satisfactory answer then follow it up with a letter to the RCVS.  Make sure your letter is sent special delivery and you have a photocopy.

Hi

He is our usual vet who usually is very good, he was going to charge us £65 for the aftercare of our bitch and the care of the pups after they had been born.

Hi

Yes, but he dont always charge us an induction fee, he only ever seems to charge for any treatment our dogs have recieved.  We have used him for years, and always been happy, but we feel a little let down by him now.

if he hasent looked at the pups since he saw the bitch where is the aftercare just refuse to pay and demand that he show you what time in his appointment book he saw those pups . in a court this wouldent hold up after care means care for the bitch or those pups once they were born he hasent done that job has he . does he even know what pups were born? that could be a good point to show he hasent seen those pups .if hes done his aftercare like he said hes done he will know how many males/females were born .the colours ect
