Topic Dog Boards / Health / Lame bullmastiff, Xrays!!!

Hi all
My 3 months old bullmastiff pup went lame on sunday, i had her to the vet on monday and he said if she was no better by thursday to bring her back for xrays, i made the mistake of giving her breakfast yesturday so we had to wait untill today today the xrays.
Anyway the vet has just rang me to say that the ball joint on her femur doesn't fit snuggly into her hip joint but that this could be because she is still so young or it could be the beginning of HD, they are sending the xrays to a specalist. Is it normal for large breed dogs to have this? and does it ever sort itself out?

The xrays have cost about £600, i am being told by other pet owners that this is way to expensive and that my vet is charging more than the norm, is this about the right price? They have taken a seris of xrays about 15 in total i think and she was under GA for about 45 mins.

Thanks all
Debbie

Hi Debbie

Just found my receipt for the x-rays taken by specialist on my dog, the cost for 4 x-rays came to £363 pluse VAT. The specialists charge a little higher and I think my normal vet charged about half that for 4 x-rays. If he has taken 15 then that may be about right, did he give a reason as to why he took so many?

Hi Izzy Bear
Firstly i would like to apologise for the reply that that i seem to have written to myself, my little sister is staying at my house for the week and it looks like she has got a bit carried away with my username.

The reason so many xrays were taken was because they took xrays of all the parts of both her legs, and at different angles. The total bill came to £746.46.

We will know more next week when the specalist report come back.

We are extremly worried, i am still hoping that she has just hurt herself and needs time to recover. She seemed a bit better today and we had to stop her playing with our lab about half a dozen times. This is the first time since Sunday that she has tryed to play so i am hoping that she is feeling better. She is still lame but not as bad as she was a few days ago.

Thanks for the reply and i will let you know what the specalist comes back with.

Debbie
