I heard recently about a dog that is being called a "Labradoddle". Have you ever heard of this breed? I was told that it is being breed in Australia and is a great dog. You can reach me at.....jbandsoda@earthlink.net

Please type the word labradoodle into our
Search facility and you will see lots of threads on this subject :-) PS: The labradoodle is a mongrel.

Why do you consider it a mongrel? Does that mean sussex spaniels are mongrels because they have had clumber blood added to them in relatively recent history? Or the shih tzu or the Parson Russell Terrier?

Have always thought of it as cross breeding - are the trying to breed a seperate breed by breeding lab cross to lab cross and if so who is doing it. JH

Just because it's a cross-breed doesn't mean it doesn't have a lovely temprament and isn't a lovely pet because i've heard they make lovely pets .:D PS this is from a breeder my friend knows :p

I would have thought clumber blood would only improve them :D
Was this so that the breed didn't die out?

Basically yes although the KC allowed this type of 'out crossing' without much ado!

I know nothing about Sussex Spaniels (except the myth that they whine and bark a lot), but wouldn't the introduction of clumber stock into their gene pool make the dog a lot heavier and stockier? Did it have any changes? Do they now snore, moult constantly and steal anything that's not nailed down?

Sussex and Clumbers are my fav spaniels. Yes it did make them heavier and indeed some looked very odd with clumber heads on a sussex body! But like anything with (hopefully) careful breeding over the years they brought it back!

Why does everyone take so strongly against Labradoodles?:(

Yes they look nice and maybe they do have great temperaments but there are other breeds with similar looks and temperaments I'm sure.
I know what it's like to go for an unusual breed.

I have nothing against cross breeds when they are acknowledged to be just that, cross breeds! But when an attempt is made to pass them off as a rare breed at pedigree prices, and inflated pedigree prices at that then my blood boils!

PS. Tictac, you went all through this a couple of months ago so why resurrect it again now?
