I was wondering how I go about putting my dog to stud.  I would only want to stud him once.  He is fully KC Registered and we have a copy of his breed history.  He is a bullmastiff and has a great temprement.  Could someone out there help I would just like to say that I do not want to show him as he is a family pet but I would like him to stud once.

Thank you.

Before you put him to stud he will have to be hip-scored and eye-tested, to make sure he won't be passing on any hereditary conditions for which you could be sued. Bullmastiffs have quite a high average hip-score (not good) so the chances of legal problems are higher than in many other breeds.

Stud dogs aren't usually advertised - they are seen doing well in the showring and bitch owners ask to use them. Bear in mind that being used at stud, especially only once, can turn a well-behaved family pet into a very different animal (leg-cocking indoors, agression to other males etc), especially when there's a bitch in season anywhere in the area!

With out being shown and (winning) with out hip-scoring and eye testing the only
people that would want to use him would be idiots that have non hip-scored females
non KCregd females so that would mean utter rubbish  being bred and more for me and any other person that does rescue to take in and rehome
Do you know that in our  kennels at this time we have 10 bullmastiffs waiting for new homes and more still in there homes waiting so please think hard about it and please dont do it....

And also bear in mind that as the owner of the stud, you will in theory, be in charge of the mating - mastiffs are not an easy breed to mate for a novice breeder.
