At the moment my bitch Lola is right at the standing stage of her season and my young dog Louis has been reduced to a gibbering wreck !. He has'nt eaten for the past 4 days, paces constantly and whines and groans like a love sick walrus. If I let him in the house he wees up everything, if I put him in my kennels he screams like a banshee and so he spends most of the day on the lead attatched to my hand !.
Last few seasons weren't quite as bad as this one but he's been used at stud a few times since then and now obviously knows what he is missing. Does anyone know of any calming tricks I can use ? - I could just leave him in the kennels but he gets so distressed in there and has already lost loads of weight and condition plus I really don't want the dogs to associate the kennels with 'punishment' as they have always been happy to go in there when neccesary.

Could you not put him in boarding kennels, or let someone look after him while your bitch is in season.
Then he wouldn't have to go through all this frustration :( and neither would you :D
Mitch.

I use a Dorwest product called Skullcap and valerian, very good for calming, my friend uses it on her stud dog when her girls are in season, seems to do the trick!
Chlorophyll tabs are supposed to be good at masking bitches scent - one of my friends used them (they have a few stud dogs) and the dogs didn't pick up the scent for about two of the three weeks!!!! You do have to give it to the bitch as soon as season started (so not much use this time).
