is a breeder - her bitch has had a litter, therefore she is a breeder, just as her bitch is a mother! BAER testing is the
only sure way to determine if a dog can hear - and it only costs about £15 per puppy, so that's a drop in the ocean in comparison with the rest of the costs. The hand-clapping method doesn't detect unilaterism, and can indeed miss total deafness! Her bitch should have been BAER tested before breeding, as should the stud dog.
I wouldn't worry that she only had a photocopy of the dog's pedigree - she wouldn't have a copy of his registration certificate, but the pedigree should have his registration number on it (to be added to the pedigree she writes for each pup) for reference and verification.
