Hi,
I'm currently looking for an estate car with a boot big enough to carry two rottweilers comfortably. I'd plan on fitting a tailgate guard, rear seat guard and partition. I've looked at various models and boot sizes do seem to vary, so I'd be pleased to receive advice from anyone who uses an estate car with large breeds.

Vauxhall Astra Estate is excellent and will hold two large dogs comfortably;volvos; both benefit from a flat rear door which helps with the sun etc. Ford Focus estate is also good. Ford Mondeos have low profile which means large dog have difficulty standing or sitting upright.

Do you have a car that you car fit all your kids and dogs into? We currently have a Volvo V70 Estate, but think we may need to trade up a size to get 3 kids in the back comfortably...

Have had a Ford Mondeo for the last few years and its been excellent although I would advise you buy a 2 ltr not the 1.6. It was excellent to drive, cheap on maintenance and is one of the biggest estates on the market.
We have now changed to a Ford Galaxy turbo diesel. Its lovely to drive(but not as much fun as the mondeo) and has as much room as you could want in the boot. You can remove as many of the 5 rear seats as you require so in effect you can have it as a 'van' when required or anything from 2 to 7 seats.I have folded the 2 rear seats up and have fitted a dog cage in that takes 3 elkhounds comfortably. If you removed the 2 rear seats completely (they just unclip) it would be more than big enogh for 2/3 rotties and you still have 5 seats.

Hi guest, the Mondeo gets my vote too. Mine is a 2.0l Zetec, and my 27inch to the shoulder Irish Setter has no trouble standing upright. The boot space is huge.

Mine was a 2ltr Zetec too!!! Really miss the 'drive'...loved it!! However when given the choice of a different car or get rid of the kids the car had to go...close decision though!!
