I was walking my pup last night when we were spotted by a dog in the house across the road, a highland terrier had seen my dog through the window and came racing out of the house and came charging out at us. The highland Terrier raced acorss the road and narrowly missed being hit but a white van thanks to an elderly women who screamed. the dog just missed the wheels of the van can still came charging over to us. I picked up my pup and had to try and get the terrier back over the road which believe me is hard work holding a staffordhire bull terrier and a vicious little Highland terrier.
I can't believe that people don't secure their back gates!!! knowing that there dog would go mental upon seeing another dog.
That dog had a very very lucky escape because I honestly thought it would be a goner.

Sorry just needed to get that of my chest because I was very angry!

What a horrible experience for you; owners not closing their gates etc is a pet hate of mine, having been jumped out at by a territorial dog who had a go at my very elderly dog at the time. Thank goodness this dog was just displaying rather than serious but it was upsetting.

I hope the owners of the Westie will keep the gates shut now...!

I hope that the owner has learned their lesson.......

I have a rescue staffie and she is not good with other dogs...so i keep her on the lead if i think that there are any other dogs and about and I am extra vigilant if she is off the lead having a run around......when we walked up the path the weaves thru the woods there is a house at the top and a dog came flying out growling and bark...well Sky nearly had the thing by thr throat..i got such a fright and sky was going mental...the owner did not even come otut to see what was going on......I am glad i has sky on the lead at the time..i did not know a dog lived there!.....it could have been a disaster....as it was i picked up sky byher harness and gave theother dog a sgood shouting and walked away with a very hyper HEAVY dog trying to escape my clutches..

Mistakes happen :) I just hope that when I make a mistake I don't find it plastered all over Champdogs "irresponsible womans great dane takes out gate and eats my chihuahua" :D

Very true ChloeH

Even I have made mistakes :D and I don't know anyone who has not made the odd error or their child/spouse/postman etc has not left the door/gate open etc in error.

Repeated negligence is of course another issue..............

We intended to make our side gate higher when Tara was a pup (we'd never had a problem with older dog) - we only found out that the gate was already too low when she cleared it easily on Fireworks Night :( No harm done fortunately - but gate was replaced ASAP :)

Think I may be a bit over cautious.I have a 6 foot solid fence panel at one end of the entrance to the garden and then a chained and padlocked gate behind it!!!!!!!!!!!

Well yes - we have similar as we left the original gate in place and added a 6ft solid gate at the other end. Don't bother to padlock ours as anybody could get into our garden from the fields next to it if they wanted :( as long as they don't mind getting somewhat mauled climbing over our holly and hawthorn hedge :D
