i have recently brought home a 7 week old puppy who has terrible diarrhoea. We have had her for 4 days and although we understand that re-homing may unsettle her and cause upset stomach I really feel that it should have settled down by now.
She was wormed on the day we brough her home and her diet hasn't been changed.
She is having Weetabix for breakfast, Pedigree chum puppy with kibble for lunch, tea and evening meal.
We are going to starve her today to give her little belly a rest, what food should I start introducing back into her diet??? If things haven't settled by tomorrow I will take her to the vet but I though someone might be able to give me some tips!

Now sure if I understand your post properly; is your puppy having weetabix AND pedigree chum AND some sort of kibble to eat? If so this is a lot of different foods; why?
It may well be the different water rather than the diet added to the stress of being somewhere new and/or it may be the combination of things she is eating or indeed an infection.
Quite frankly if a puppy of this age has had diarrhoea for more than 48 hours I would seriously have it checked out at the vet as all puppies should be when brought home for a health check. If your puppy is not drinking at all you should get to the vet as a matter of urgency.
In the meantime small amounts of live yoghurt should do her no harm.

This is the diet that the breeder had her on so we have just stuck to that...???? We were told not to change the diet as this can cause upset .
The puppy drinks fine and is in good health, she has a shiney coat, clear eyes and bounds around like crazy so there is nothing wrong with her other than the fact that she has diarrhoea.....
Should we starve her for the day and just give her pedigree chum puppy???? I was told that it is best for dogs to eat dry food....?? Im very confused, I've read countless books and they all seem to contradict each other???
I will take her to the vets tomorrow.

Is this another pup not the 15 week old Staffy? I assume it must be as you don't mention the diarrhoea on your previous post

This is another puppy. We are having a feeding nightmare at the moment.
I have had dogs before but not at such a young age.
The younger one is off to the vets today. Im going to try and get this all sorted out once and for all!

To cut a long story short I have two pups.
A 15 wk old one that is a fussy eater and a 7 wk old that eats anything and evrything but has Diarrhoea.....
We didnt plan on have two at such a young age but certain circumsatnces meant we had to take on a younger puppy.
They are both happy healthy dogs and are dearly loved we are just having slight probles in terms of food.

Could it just be that you are feeding her too much? Some puppies will eat far too much & end up with Dire Rear!! If you mean tinned Pedigree Puppy, it could be that she can't take it, lots of puppies seem to end up with Dire Rear on that. If you want to stick to tinned, try her on Chappie instead.

I agree totally Anwen !!!!! Dire rear LOL I can spell that ..Lisa do you mean soft motions or pouring out of puppy SORRY if your having lunch !!!!!!!!! sounds like over feeding to me as well many people mistake a pudding like soft motion for dire rear :)

No its like water and it squirts out of her, she seems in good health other than that.
Im taking her to the vets this evening so hopully he can sort her out.
One thing I do worry about though is that she is really really small, she is the same size as my other dog was at 4-5 weeks. Maybe Im just being paranoid!! She plays and runs around and does all the normal stuff but she is tiny!!! She is a Staff if I haven't mentioned.

Bitches are smaller than dogs anyway -
and different lines produce different looking dogs

Hi i have a 9 week old staffie pup
She had the runs yesterday morning
Her diet is
AM mik and wheetabix
LUNCH pedigree dry and tinned
DINNER Pedigree dry and scrambled egg
SUPPER rice pudding or wheetabix and milk
Yesterday becaude she had the runs i just gave her the dry food with scrambled egg,she is solid again this morning.
Hope your pup is ok with two pups you have your hands full!

It sounds as though your pup is intolerant to wheat (the weetabix) and/or milk. Luckily neither is necessary in her diet, so you can abandon them without fear.

I took my pup to the vet and he said that the diarrhoea was probably due to her being wormed that day she was taken home. He said she may well have a little stomach bug but he has given us some medicine to give her for 3 days and if it does clear up within the next couple of days too take a sample in.
He's told us to feed her chicken and rice... she does seem alittle perkier this morning and her poo's are starting to get some body to them hooray!!!
What a reflief!!!!
Thanks for everyones tips, they are no longer on weetabix or yuck yuck pedigree chum puppy!!! So if anyone wants 24 cans of the stuff let me know!!

What food are you feeding them now then?

I've fed them pedigree chum complete with a mix of beta puppy with warm water and this morning they had rice with chicken. Both went down a treat, and little Rosie poo is alot better...whether this is down to her settling down at home, the medicine she is on or the withdrawl of the pedigree chum puppy Im not sure but there is a marked improvement.
Its very difficuly when you have specific problems because books don't really help much its great to be able to ask other owners for advice so thanks again to everyone...Im sure I will be back with more moans soon though!
