my girlfrien and i have been living together for about a year and have often discussed getting a dog both of us
being dog lovers its just a matter of time. the question remains however wich breed do we go for, i like german
shepards as my brother has two and they are very clever dogs she on the other hand wanted a boxer which we disagreed
on i think there all muscle and no brain to hyper for me.then the other day she wakes me up and tells me not asks me that were
getting a dalmation, the woman at the end of the street dalmation has had pups one boy and four bitches. i had never thought of
having a dalmation but on the whole didnt seem such a bad idea the only thing is im a novice on the subject of pedigree papers and
one other friend was asking me if the dogs have been hip scored idont know what this means and would like if someone
could educate me on kc registration and hip score also the general pros and cons of making a dalmation part of the family. 

If you don't like boxers you probably wouldn't get on with a dalmatian! Their characters are vry similar in many ways. It is absolutely vital that all dalmatian puppies should be BAER tested before they leave their mother, and ideally both parents will have certificates proving they have normal hearing. Hip-scoring is a method of trying to eliminate crippling hip dysplasia in all breeds. Some breeds are more prone to it than others, and GSDs are one of them. All breeding stock should have been x-rayed and have evidence that they are not sufferers. The average 'score' for GSDs is 19, and the lower the figure the better. The GSD breed clubs will be able to give you more information.

A Boxer, like any other breed, is exactly what YOU make it. If you expect & train a dog to be a fool & a clown, well, then it will oblige. If you recognise that your dog is a smart, happy, willing-to-please individual who will give you loyalty & devotion to the end of its days in return for your love & commitment then, whatever breed you select, you will have a companion without compare.

I own both a Boxer and a Dalmatian and seriously if you think a Boxer is hyper then a Dalmatian is definitely not for you.  As puppies Dalmatians are very bouncy as are Boxers both require a good training regime from an early age.  Neither are the easiest of dogs for the novice dog owner.
