Recently taken on a rescue BT who is a happy chap until he is asked to leave his bbed last thing at night to go for last night wee. He knows he is being asked to come but sits or lies in his bed watching. when approached he growls, when a hand is extended the growls are more agressive. We started last night putting a lenth of rope on his collar in order to remove him from his bed without confrontation. He was pretty miffed with me.

Anyone got any other ideas. He has also growled at my son (10) when he has approached him in his bed. My son is under strict instructions to not approach him in his bed but to call in from it and give much praise when he oblidges - 8/10 times he comes out, but not at night.

We have no knowlege of him having a "thing" about coming out of his bed or guarding it. It is odd that it seems to be a Night time thing.

Has anyone got any ideas for us. He is a sweet chap in all other aspects.

The line on his collar to make him comply without confrontation, or risk of being bitten is an excellent idea. It might be worth him learning thatit is actually also worthwhile coming out of his bed, by being rewarde with a small tit biut, especially by your son. If this doesn't seem to be improving quickly then I would take his bed away!

We have a 5 year old lazy BT that gives the same type of responce if touched late at night to get him off the settee to go out & to bed he is very stuborn in his ways
we always just tell him he has to get off & he does but we to had to use tit bit reward to start with, & every now & again remind him with reward because he starts to go back into being stubborn & having to be called up to 6 times before he gets off
The line idea is a good one if also backed up with tit bit reward
our 5 year old was also a rescue when he was 3

A suggestion might also be to not allow him to go to his bed until the "last break" of the night. Keep him next to you on the floor/towel/pillow. When it is time for you to go to bed, that's when it's his time too.
Just a thought before I head to bed now :D
