What are these shows?  Are they different from breed,open shows?

Companion shows are ones that you can turn up to on the day.  They are great fun and usually have things like dog with the waggiest tail (guaranteed to be won if you own a dalmatian).  Opens on the other hand have to be entered a few weeks in advance and unless  you get best in show you do not qualify for crufts.

Companion shows are held locally and normally have novelty classes thrown in with the more serious ones.   Entry fees are much cheaper and some will take entries on the day.  Open Shows can be open to any breed or can be one particular breed.   These have a much broader range of classes.   There is also limit shows which are also local, inexpensive and great to start off with.
