Hi Archer,
Just watched it......... have been following it with interest the last couple of weeks......
That it is what is like in the USA.... When we went over for our breeds Nationals last year, I couldn't believe the amount of chemicals and sprays that they put into their dogs coats..... I spent all day just watching dogs get whiter legs and feet, fluffier coats and hocks and very trimmed ears and sculptured coats.......... I was quite horrified.... :-(
An American bitch ended up winning the breed at Crufts this year, but I dread to think what would have happened had she been coat tested..........

Nice to hear from you!!
Its been a real eye opener!! Not only the grooming but the attitude and what I would consider bad manners of the competitors! Its amazing how few dogs are actually competing at their 'big' shows aswell....more like our open shows.
Nikki.
ps....hope Scarlets doing well!

It is a bit OTT tho' & the american handlers/owners I know are very polite & courteous-well at least in the ring ;)

There are plenty of UK exhibitors who leave a lot to be desired behaviour wise

Hi Nikki,
Yes, we are all fine, thanks for asking........ :-)
Hope your crew of dogs and children are all fine.
Hope to catch up with you soon,
Gabrielle x

Bought the DVD some while ago and found it amusing but although you could think of people who fitted the characters represented I am glad that there are a good many in the UK who show for enjoyment and have other more important things in their lives. But we do have some who are very like those in the film if we are honest. OH! and also glad we do not have to travel so far.

I got the movie BEST IN SHOW... and I could match every character to some one I knew.... are you talking about the film Archer or a series of something different????

I wondered if this was something serious or the hilarious take off.  The film was hysterical.  Some said I was not disimiliar to the lady with the Weinerama (and I know I have spelt that wrong)  Cant think why.

I love that show - did you see the Poodle lady tonight? I can't believe what a bad loser she is! :-D

BTW - its the Canadian dog show circuit, not American ;-)

You aint seen a bad loser until you have seen one of my dogs lose!!!!

LOL!  :-D

There are two discussions going on here !!!!!! :-)
The first debate is about a programme which follows the Canadian Dog Show circuit, and goes through grooming, showing, sore losers etc... It is on every Monday between 5-6pm on Animal Planet, and is definitely worth watching for entertainment value alone......
The second debate is about the movie ''Best In Show''...... which I have to say, I still haven't seen......

After watching last week's show I can understand why dog shows and breeders have such a bad reputation!

Seeing those poor bulldogs and their "loving" owners was upsetting - I can understand why some vets have such a bad opinion of the breed. What is a "walrus" puppy, as one pup had to be destroyed due to being one?

I am sure that we Brits do not act in such an unsporting way, and that becoming a champion is never more important than the dog itself. But saying that I will be watching it again later today - I am hooked

My experience of showing in the uk is nothing like the programme.I am lucky enough to be in a breed where everyone is supportive and encouraging and bad sportmanship is rare.

i am new to showing with my leo.but he comes first,if i had to stop putting him in the ring i would.his health and welfare is the most important thing to me not any show or title.

We show a a hobby. Both me,my daughter and the dogs enjoy it. Winning is secondary and the dogs happiness is foremost.
