Hi There,

I am due to pick up my puppy the bank holiday weekend, however I have already got an 18 month old who is the same sex and breed- cocker spaniel boy.  The breeder said if they are introduced properly this shouldn't be a problem, but some people have said that you shouldn't have the same breed or sex of dog.

My dog is very loving and not at all vicious.  Any comments would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Claire

I have 3 Flatcoated Retriever dogs aged 10, 8 and 5.  They all live happily together and will share food out of the same bowl.

They are all used for stud work and are no problem.  They are a bit vocal when the bitches come into season - we call it the "Kentford boys choir" because they do sing at the top of their voices.

If they are brought up right then there is no problem.

As long as they are introduced they most likely will get on!  We have 2 boys and two girls, all the same breed :)  Two dog who I know live togther but don't get on are different breeds, it has nothing to do with the breed....except in afew breeds.

I have 4 cocker spaniel bitches they get along just fine.  A friend of mine has 2 boys 3 girls and they are all best of friends.....all different ages etc.  saying that, not all dogs will get along - this goes for all breeds, and it may take time for them to adjust, but I'm sure everything will be fine!

Good luck!

Hi claire

I have two cocker boys.  There is a 19 month age gap and they are best of friends.  Morgan was 2 in May and Cooper is just over 7 months.  All I'd say is don'ttry to force either one of them into being the boss - they will sort it out for themselves.  so far, Cooper tends to boss Morgan about - takes toys/treats off him, etc.  I did not expect this but it works fine for them.  They sleep together and eat together and have never had a real fight.  Be prepared for lots of play fighting though - it can look and sound like they'e killing eachother but they're just having fun :D.  Enjoy your new pup - you'll have hours of endless fun watching them play together!! :-)
