I went to a school band picnic on Saturday 31. I was talking with one of my fellow band members who is two years below me. She started to tell me about her dog being pregnant. I knew that her family owns and raises Cocker dogs. I also knew that they had an adult dog and an adult bitch who was spayed. Last school year, they bought another female cocker pup from a different breeder, obviously to be a breeding bitch. Currently, this pup is no older than 8 months.

When I asked which girl was pregnant, she said the youngest one. I swear I felt my heart skip a beat. Here's how our conversation went from there:

"Uh... How old is the youngest girl?"
"Um, she's almost 8 months old."
".............."
"Yeah, it's really exciting! She is due in the next two weeks."
"Heh... So your little puppy is having puppies, huh?"
"Yeah."
"I'll never understand that, Amanda. I'll never understand why you people do that."

I walked away from her. This girl is a friend of mine, so I didn't really want to say much more about it to her. Plus, I didn't want to hear her talk about how excited she was about having more puppies around for the fear that I would turn on her.

There were so many things I could have told her. But, seeing as her parents are the horrible people that allowed this to happen, I didn't really have any right to chew their daughter out. But I wish so badly that there was something I could tell her. Next time I see her if the bitch hasn't already had the pups, I am going to say this:

"Amanda, how's your pregnant girl doing?"
"Good!" She'll say.
"Well, I do hope that she survives and I do hope that the puppies are born with out complications. I also hope that none of the puppies are killed in the birthing process. Good luck!"

I know that hundreds of 6-9 month old bitches give birth to puppies every day around the world. Some have problems, but most probably get on just fine. I can only hope and pray for this little cocker bitch that she will give birth to her whelps with no problems and pray that she will be a good mother to them. *sigh*

If only they knew...

I know just how you feel :(

When I was 15 my best friend (very religious family) acquired a rabbit.  It turned out that the rabbit was pregnant and the first they knew was when she had babies!  Trouble was they were handling the new born kits !!  I told her they mustn't because the rabbit would become stressed and kill them but was ignored.  Next time I enquired after the rabbit and babies I was told "dad killed her with a shovel, cos she ate them and it is against gods law"  I tried to explain as best I knew how that this was their fault and the rabbit couldn't possibly be to blame or know Gods law but to be honest it was the last conversation we had.  I couldn't be friends with someone who couldn't understand why I was so upset and thought that what they did was ok :( :(

Some people are incapable of understanding :( :(
