My 5mth old Lab Puppy started coughing badly last night and was still poorly this morning so took him to the vet.  His tempreture was slightly raised and vet thinks it is Kennel cough.  He has put him on 5 days of antis and Rimadyl for 3 days.
Hoping my little cavalier dosen't catch it as she already has throat problems.
Can any of you who have had a dog with this please give me your experiences.

Thanks

Bev

Kennel Cough is very roughly speaking, the canine equivalent of the common cold and like the common cold there are so many variations on the theme. This is the reason why it is so hard to vaccinate against. I'm a little surprised your vet gave Rimadyl! This is something which I hate because of all the dogs who have had bad reactions to it. Try to keep your dogs away from others for at least 3 weeks. (It is too late for your Cavalier, if she is going to get it she will already be incubating it by now.)

Best wishes, John

As John says there are many variants of KC - some stronger than others.
It is contagious - you can get a periodic nasal spray but because there are so many different strains ( and the spray does not protect against all of them) then the dog can still catch KC.
