Hello guest,

This may help you decide if you wish to pursue your intention to breed a litter of my beloved SBT;

>>>>>>It is believed by responsible breeders who care for their dogs that it is wise to wait until around the 3rd season or 2 years of age.  However, please note that it is obviously possible for a bitch to get pregnant on her first season, but not wise as they are not physically or mentally mature and may have problems giving birth or rearing a healthy litter, resulting in large vet bills and possibly no puppies.

>>>>>>If your bitch is KC registered, the KC will not register puppies born from a bitch who was mated before she was 12 months of age, so she would have to be at least 14 months of age before giving birth.

>>>>>>As with all breeds, Staffies have recommended health checks which should be completed to ensure that puppy buyers are not open to take the breeder to court for negligence.  Someone who knows your breed will no doubt point these out.

>>>>>>Also, you should check that your bitch is of a good enough standard to breed from, or you may find it very hard to sell puppies and may have lots of unsold dogs eating you out of house and home, quite literally.<<<<<<

Expect I will be told off. But, why when there are so many badly bred Staffs about and the rescues centres have dozens of staffies and staffie crosses does anyone feel the need to breed a litter of unregistered pups, who one assumes are from parents without health tests or health checked background? And, how can you buy in a pup knowing it will grow into a bitch that will suit the dog you already have?

As the guest can't reply without joining us, perhaps someone else will explain. Staffordshire Bull Terriers are not my breed, but I would think those who love and care for the breed must be easy to spot as they must be bald having pulled all their hair out in distress and frustration.

You are right Jackie it is getting frustrating with all the posts on her about breeding SBT's as people as for your help and yet when you contact the person and ask them about health checks and you spend a while finding out about their bitch and trying to find a suitable line to put to their bitch they seem to think it is to much like hard work and end up using the first available dog whose owner is only interested in the stud fee. The guest said that the litter they had before was 'a nice litter' but what does 'nice' exactly mean. Are they good examples of the breed. Do they have any faults that the owner wants to remove from their lines by using a blue or is the guest only thinking about the pound signs they will make from hopefully having a litter of blues. Remeber blue to blus does not mean you will have blue pups. A guy at our training club put his blue dog over a blue bitch and eneded up with reds and red and white pieds!

have to say it is when people decide that to get blues, they need to use a blue stud that starts the danger bells ringing, added to in this case that the guest has already bred a litter that could not be registered because one of the dogs is not registered and yes, I feel for all those who love the breed and have their welfare at heart.

What is this obession wth Blue Staffs? I'll tell you what it is-cashing in on a so called 'rarity'. Pandering to peoples desire for something unusual and lining ones pockets :(

>> SHOCKING if u ask me << -

Shocking and moronic on the part of the breeder and the purchaser if you ask me - but then I don't suppose anyone will :(

its crazy! not so long ago they were advertised @ £700, now it seems to have shot up to well over double that!

Even £700 for a Staffie is far to much do they come with a solid gold collar. Sad thing is the quality of the animal seems to be in direct opposite from what you would expect, the less the care in breeding and the poorer the conformation of the pups, the more the cost, just as long as you can claim something special in the way of colour.
