Champion Eclipse of Eveley was in fact a male & a Grandson of Champion Hendrawen's Quadrille of Eveley & a known producer od epileptics

May Tidbold held the Eveley Affix

Unfortunately epilepsy along with many other inherited problems are not able to be ascertained in the show ring. That means that owners must be brutally honest, and breeders scruples in their choice of breeding stock, it is just not good enough to use a dog that has an ancestor with a problem like epilepsy with the excuse that the dog was never proven to have the disease, epilepsy is very difficult to diagnose but if in doubt don't, breed from, that is.

PS: now waiting for complaints that I have deviated from the original question, will never get used to only replying to the points raised, sorry.

Actually this dog, his father & G/father(Quadrille)were all used at stud after they had produced epileptics & Eclipse's sister was also an epileptic.

Quadrille died early of a "tired"heart<sigh>they have multiple lines back to Avon Prince of Alumvale who is behind a lot of known epileptics of the "Alsatian"type GSD

There are epileptics of course in GSDs that do not have any lines to these dogs & basically the problem is hidden by breeders on both "Alsatian"& International type sides

Touch wood my GSDs were all free from epilepsy as were their off spring & like my Cavalier who carries Syringomyelia & my ISDS BC with HD if they had produced or had this I would have made it public. But then I am amougst the few when making public health  problems in my dogs

I know of at least one"working"GSD kennels that has health problems that are hidden because the dogs do well in competitions-including epilepsy & another who produce a few too many dogs that die way to young from undisclosed accidents/illnesses
