how much about does a flat coat cost
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 30.07.04 20:35 UTC
About £400.
- By John [gb] Date 30.07.04 21:12 UTC
I have a bit of a thing about this kind of post. We have had so many of them lately covering so many different breeds. If this is the most important question the poster can think of then I dont think I would want to answer them. There is something to be said for that if you cannot afford to buy the dog then you cannot afford to keep it.

jeangenie you are well out on that price, again i agree with john on this,
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 30.07.04 21:48 UTC
briedog, that's the average price quoted on Petplanet. I would guess the price to be about the same as a labrador. What would be your estimate?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 30.07.04 21:46 UTC
I understand your point, John, but if you don't know the price, how do you know you can't afford it?
- By briedog [gb] Date 30.07.04 21:52 UTC
what the price of avage labrador,???? different areas, different colour, different show/working or pet quailtitys and so on.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 30.07.04 21:58 UTC
briedog, 'average' takes all those things into account. 'Average' price for a KC reg labrador (colour makes no difference except to unscrupulous breeders and gullible buyers) - some are more, some are less - is £400 or thereabouts.

I get the idear JG that all these similar posts are the same person. If you read then they all say very much the same thing. There has been a whole crop over the last few days.

but i had a email and a phone yesterday stating the first thing how much is a fcr, from the same person, then went on to ask when was i going to breed again and where about i live,

not once ask about the temperment, health issues, and so on.so i didnt give to much away,in reply to them.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 30.07.04 22:27 UTC
Although it puts me off at first I have to say that anything else that I buy the price is one of the first things that I want to know.  I think that people do ask more and more because there is such a variation in prices for breeds so there should be some kind of average.  I know in my breed it's £600.00.  Others may ask more but I'd say 90% of people don't.  Just because you pay more does that mean that you are getting the best ?
- By briedog [gb] Date 31.07.04 07:05 UTC
well i am the other way around when i buy thing, plus dogs, i look first at the temperment, health isssue, characteristic and so on in a dog to make shaw the breed is right for my lifestlye,as you know i wait and watch the swd for 5 year before i got gollie.

it the same which household good and ect pay abit from it will last,

i know what you mean that if you pay more for a dog does not mean that you are getting the best,

but their are alot of breedres out there that take alot of care rising the dam ,looking for a good stud dog with good quailtiy to go with the dam, have  the tests done before breeding,a lot of throught and care go into the breeding progamme and i  am one of the those breeders that do care for both of my breeds of dogs,

another reason price  are different in areas, beasuce the south is more expecvie, like insurcans, vetsfree.

i cannot come tommrow to the swd semiar, chat later about it,

take care

Hi,

I remember once someone  saying if you have to ask the price  or you can't see it printed you can't afford it.

I agree that these posts are frustrating, but with all respect some of you do talk some twaddle.  Of course health issues etc. are important, but OF COURSE people also want to know average prices before they look at dogs.
- By Daisy [gb] Date 31.07.04 09:00 UTC
Exactly - I've got a rescue dog who cost £50 and a pedigree that cost more than that, but I wouldn't spend more than £500 on a dog. I'm prepared to spend whatever it takes for it's welfare, but I am worried that fashion etc bumps up prices and encourages purchase and breeding of dogs for the wrong reasons :(

£500, if the dog live avage age of 10years that only £50 per year plus cost.
- By Daisy [gb] Date 31.07.04 18:22 UTC
Ideally, dogs should be free like children :) As the saying goes - free to GOOD homes ! Unfortunately, high prices seem to attract the wrong type of owner, as some see paying that much as some sort of status symbol. Obviously, I understand how much it costs a reputable breeder to produce a litter and so a payment to recoup this is necessary - but that should be it. Our two dogs mean the same to us, irrespective of how much we paid for them :)

Of course they do Timhere,it they were serious about the breed you get info from a breedclub or a breeder directly but some of them can't be bothered.

This is the problem with some breeds, you will find some people will charge an average price and then there are others who ask a lot more, this doesn't mean that the ones for quite a bit less are any less better than the ones that people could be paying a lot more for.  Also some of the ones that are cheaper are stil tested for all the health problems etc. and maybe the ones that you are paying more for are not.

I ALSO make sure that temperaments etc. are good but I don't ask extortianate prices !!!!
