Hi does anyone own an IPOD? And can you tell me if there any good. Im trying to convince my mom and dad that i NEED an mp3 player! Dont get me wrong, im not a spoilt brat it just that being the youngest and only girl has it advantages! They said that i can have one and im gonna get the 15GB one. Does anyone know if there any good or know a place that i can get them for less than £189.00 which is the cheepest on kellkoo.

does it HAVE to be an iPod?

if you just want an mp3 player, to use as you would use a walkman, then you can get them much cheaper than that!

Ive just bought a packard bell Audiokey, the 256mb one, they also do a 128mb version for about £30 less (think the 258mb one *should* be about £100 ish, i, fortunately, was sold the 256mb version for the price of the 128mb, because dixons staff dont know what they are doing!)

Unless you want to use an mp3 player as storage for transporting HUGE files between computers that are not networked, i really cannot see why you will need 15gb at all.

the one ive got has a shuffle function, and probably the only tiny things i dont like, are that the headphones it comes with are too big for my ears (used to that anyway) and the lcd display is not backlit. However, im used to buying better headphones, and since i dont intend to stare at teh screen for hours and hours, i am really not bothered!

Because it has a shuffle function, you dont get the same tracks in the same order, meaning its not actually annoying hearing the same songs again and again, which so far i havent actually done, since with 256mb, i can store enough music (8 hours of wma files or 4 hours of mp3 files) to last me anywhere im going!

Dont be conned into spending vast quantities of money JUST because its an iPod, they are no better, apart from huge amounts of space, than any other mp3 player, just come with an 'image' which is what you are paying for.

Surprise your parents, go for the more understated audiokey, with its smaller price tag, and you might be able to spend the change on summat else!!!!!!!!!! (not that long since i was conning parents into buying me stuff!)

HTH,

According to my son you should 'hold your horses' until just before christmas when a new batch is due out which will make the ones out now a bit cheaper.

There are some good discussions and ideas for getting IPOD at the cheapest rate at www.moneysavingexpert.com but I agree that a good ole MP3 player would do the trick for you.

(sorry can't seem to do links today - just cut n'paste!)

Try looking on ebay if you want a cheaper IPOD MP3 player.

Thank you all for your replys and your recomendadions. :)

hey theemx,

i totally know what your saying about earphones to big, i mean whats the deal!!
I wanted to go for the 15gb one cause we are moving to Ireland soon and i have to go to an irish school and learn french and tipically we learnt german at my old school so i thought i would us the audiobooks that you can get and learn french when i have a minute or when we are in the car. Can you use the audiobooks on the Audiokey?  Our next door neighbour has an ipod that can store 20,000 songs on it!! thats just stupid Can you play games like solitaire on the Audiokey? i dont really need to but would like know if you can. thanks for your reply. Im just trying to think of somethink else that i could spend the change on but im sure that i could think of SOMETHING!!! :p

Hiya,

I dont know about audio books, that would entirely depend on how much space they take up.

The audiokey doesnt do games n stuff though, sorry about that.

In my experience though, these peripheral things tend to be the least used features (my mobile has games, ive played them maybe three times?), and certainly NOT worth an extra £90 ish...... If you got an audiokey, you could spend the change on a gameboy (or whatever is the current 'thing' for playing games on.)

French is pretty easy to learn, and actually youd learn it better if you had some extra coaching, rather than listening to it, and being honest, would you REALLY find a minute to learn french in the car or where ever, as opposed to sitting down and having someone help you with it?

I do think iPods are horribly over priced, basically because of the image. From what i have seen they are quite big as well, which means they are obvious, and therefore, just like mobile fones, stealable.

The Audiokey is very small, not much bigger than a cigarette lighter, so far more concealable!

Apart from buying a gameboy, you could spend t he change on some good french text books?

Get an Ipod they are great ive had mine for a while, i mainly use it at the gym they are better than a lot of the others because of the sheer amount they can hold on them, they are in GB not MB. The Ipod Minis have just come out or are coming out in the next month or so, they look nice but unless u need a small one i would go for the full size ipod as the mini's only hold 4GB. Then again it all depends on how much you plan to put on there.

Not sure about anywhere cheaper that sounds pretty good

Not sure about buying text books with the change!!!!
Good point about getting a gameboy but my brothers got one and whats the point when you can just nick his!!!! :p
I will look into getting an audiokey and i would be able to manage without the audiobooks cause im educated at home by my mom and i would just have to replace one of my normal lessons with French taught by a proper french teacher.

Changing the subject what breed of dogs you got?

hehe, go for the audiokey, dixons should have it.......

then you can say to parents 'well i went for the cheaper option, so can i have xxx for christmas' always works well that one.
(i just asked my mum if i can have a chameleon for xmas..... then i changed my mind, now im getting a chest freezer, because she thought it was more sensible. She probably wouldnt have bought me the chameleon, and most likely not the chest freezer if id asked for that first... sneaky huh! chest freezer is second hand though.....)

I have got a longdog, a lurcher and a staffordshire bull thing..... the longdog is a saluki x greyhound, the lurcher is mostly bedlington terrier x whippet, and the staffordshire bull thing is mostly staff shaped, gsd coloured and wire haired........ the the longdog and the staff thing are both second hand hounds :)

Wot u got?

Clever idea you had with the freezer!!! :D
your dogs sound really cute is a shame that you cant post pic on this website cause i would love to see what they look like. I have a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier and will soon be getting another one in two weeks, and untill a year ago we had another wheaten and a THIRD hand yorkshire terrier who i think was a bit of a cross cause she was HUGE!! :) but i really loved her cause she was my dog but unfortanatly she was only four when she died and we had only had her for a year and she was born on the same day as me. Hopefully i will soon be getting a papillon puppy after weve had the wheaten. I did try and look if there was a rescue papillon that i could have but there wasn't any, and cause it the my first dog that i can pick the breed of i really wanted a papillon. But when im old enough and i have a place of my own i would love to have a retired greyhound in fact i dont think there's any dog that i dont like! :) Anyway what part of the country are you in?

Ive sent an email to the almighty, commonly know as admin, asking far a place to post our pictures of our little monsters. At the moment i waiting for a reply so hopefully it will soon be be able to look at everyones babies! :) The dogs on your homepage were really cute and i cant wait till our little bundle comes along in two weeks :D Our wheaten, Rosie, neally had a baby bird just but mannaged to grab hold of her!! Hopefully she wont be teaching the puppy bad habits. With our first dog that i was alive to see we were thinking of getting a rescue but i was only 5 so we needed to be certain of the temprement. But when we were choosing what breed we were going to have my mom really wanted a border terrier, my dad wanted a water spaniel, one of my brother wanted an irish wolfhound, im not sure what my other brothers and i love every dog!!!! :D  What else did you have on your shortlist?

It would be great to be able to post our pictures, but they would take up a huge amount of webspace, and unfortunately Admin would probably be forced to charge. :(
