For treats to keep our 4 legged pals cool and happy in the hot summer days?

doggie ice lollys, make them from chicken stock and put them in an ice cube tray and freeze them my dog loves them! you can make them from any thing like that that can be frozen and that is ok for your dog to eat. Also have a paddling pool outside for the dogs to spash around in this will keep them cool. And after youve took them for a walk wet a towel and ring it out and drape it over their back. Also try adding ice cubes to their drinking water. And i dont think it needs saying but walk them when the sun goes down and hopefully both you and your dogs will enjoy summer!!

hope this helps

I put natural yogurt in Fagans kong and put it in the freezer its great to keep him cool and it helps with his teething.  I also give him frozen chicken wings.

Fagan did have a paddling pool but he tore the bottom so we had to throw it, I was thinking of getting him one of those plastic pond things so he wont be able to rip it :)

Ive just bought one of the plastic shell shaped paddling pools from Tesco :)
They are supposed to be a childs paddling pool/sandpit and come in two halves ( one is supposed to be the lid for the sandpit) but if you have two doggies you get two pools L)
and it was only £13 - mind you both of mine are too wimpy to get in ;) :D

Thanks everyone - I'm going to nip to Tesco's tomorrow to see if I can pick up one of those little paddling pools for him!!

He loves having a wade into the lake when we take him for a run so having his very own swimming pool - he'll be in his element!!  :-)

Find my dog appreciate it if I hose down the ground, hard standing and grass, they then find a nice damp shaded place to lay, guess the evaporation keeps them cool for a couple of hours because that is when they get up and come indoors.

Please be careful with paddling pools - my pup nearly drowned earlier this summer. Luckily she's OK but it was scary!!!!

the best thing we find for our long haired bc is the washing.  If it has just come out of the washing machine and I hang it out he goes and sits under it for ages until it has dried and then comes back in the house,  out again he will go if I put more out.  Seems to work for him.  He did have a paddling pool last year when he was a pup and loved it.  Now he thinks it is a bath and won't go near it!

Hi
My vet told me to hose the dogs down when it is really hot, both of them hate it so i don't bother now, what i do instead is  get the kids to have a water fight. The dogs just love to join in, they don't get soaked but they do get a bit damp then i bring them in and they sit/lay on the cold tile floor in the kitchen. I also dont lwet them out in the garden for long in the hottest parts of the day, they come out to wee/poo and are then put back in thje house. If they really really want to stay out then i soak the ground under some of the bushes we have have and they lay under them.
