hello
I have a lovely yorkshire Terrier she is 8months old and just having her 1st season, i would like to know whats the best age for her to have a litter. I was thinking of breeding her next year but i want a good stud and of a small size.

If anyone has a good temprement dog and would be interested in getting in touch with me on kiddinnot@aol.com i live in the kent area.

Thanking you Paula

Paula, it may be best to wait till your pup is on her third season, you will need to wait till she has grown into an adult so you can see if she is good enough to breed from. We have said this before, but the best way for you to find the right stud is to speak to the bitches breeder, they should know which lines would suit her best, and may need to remove a breeding endorsement from the registration. You ask for a 'small' dog, but if she is small you may be better to use a stud that is of moderate size, sometimes breeding for size can produce very poor results. You will need to aim for strong healthy pups that you will be able to rear without loosing too many and you will want to know that your are doing the correct things to bring your bitch through the whelping without to much trauma. If your bitches breeder is not available, although as the pup is only a few months old I would think they are, you will need to contact one of the breed clubs to find a suitable stud and hope the stud owner will be able to help you through the whelping process.

If you are an experienced breeder then I am sorry for having said that above, but from the fact that you have asked a question that an experienced breeder would not ask I assume you are a novice.
