My dobe is 23 weeks now.  We have a few problems with him, he loves attention (as they do).  I am with him most of the time and he appears to be very jealous of my husband and boys.  If I cuddle them he jumps up and tries to bite, but he tries to bite me not my husband or children.  Also if in the park a dog tells him off, then he runs at me and keeps jumping up.  I had a dobe before but there was only myself and husband, this time we have two boys also, by the way they are 14 and 17.

Hi Debbie, Dobes seem to think the perfect place for their paws is on your shoulders -)  if you are not happy with this I think you need to make the rule that he /she is not allowed to jump up on you at any time (ie if you allow it when wearing old clothes you must also expect to allow it when wearing your Sunday best as the dog does not know the difference).  What I found very effective to deter jumping up is when ever they are about to jump on you try and anticipate it then raise your knee up (not so that you actually knee the dog but to prevent the jump) then turn side ways on to the dog or if possible turn your back on it.
Not sure about the jealousy part, maybe if you designed some command that is personal to that particular behaviour then re-inforced it by removing the dog from the situation and used positive praise when it worked.  Will be interesting to see what the more experienced CD's reccomend for this. Remember that at 23 weeks he/she is still only a baby despite their size :D  Best of Luck She

Sparky used to do this too. Whenever hubby put his arm round me, Sparky would pick up his tuggy, run at my OH and growl, but with his bum in the air, as if he wanted to play. It was as if he was trying to distract him away from me. If that didn't work (and of course, we couldn't let it) he would jump at me and start barking. After a few weeks of ignoring these antics, and hubby staying where he was, Sparky will now just raise his head, sigh, and then look away as if to say "Not you two at it again!" To be honest, we hadn't noticed that he had until I read this post. I'd like to think it was training him not to do it, but perhaps they just grow out of it?

He first of all starts whining and then he jumps up.  We seemed to have the jumping up under control but lately he seems to have started again - but it seems as if it is more than before.  A couple of weeks ago he had a really bad tummy upset, he was very poorly and it seems to have been after that.  I don't know - may be my imagination.  He is still very young.  I always seem to be saying no.  We have been attending training school with him, but I am changing to another one that I have been recommended to.  I went to watch his training session and it was very good.
I went onto Kerioak Web-site and there was an introduction from a friend of hers with their first dobermann, it really made me smile.  You see we had a dobe before, but he was nothing like our new dobe - he was pretty quiet, but this one, a different kettle of fish - definitely keeps us on our toes.  He looks as if he is thinking most of the time - "What can I do next!!!!"  He has so much character and is definitely mischievious.

This champdogs website is so helpful.
