Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Two Male Pups?? problems? Bichons
- By elliott [gb] Date 25.07.04 18:17 UTC
Hello,

Ive got a bichon pup,14 weeks old, as i work FT we leave the pup with his brother same age (who my sister bought) and a 3 yrs old cocker spaniel (my mums)

the idea is that they will be company for each other, as as there are more of us around, its easier to share the responsibility of looking after them

I have been advised that its good to neuter the pup when is young, but my concern is neither my mum or sisters will be neutering thier dogs and I don't want my pup to be the more docile one around the other two if they will become agressive??

Currently the two pups are very agressive with each other and are very noisy, this also concerns me as at home my pup is very quiet and well behaved?

Any advice on keeping male pups together? or bichons would be appreciated

Thanks

Evelyn

If you castrate you dog before he is fully grown he will not reach his full potential. The hormones produced by the testis are required for the dog to reach his adulthood.

My Vets wont castrate dogs until they're over 12 months old. :) Im wont get mine castrated though, unless a medical reason presents intself, he'll staying intact, lol :D

This is because when he is with the other puppy he can play and enjoy himself when he is home he is propably fed up, it is not normal for a 14 week old puppy to be very quiet and well behaved, he should be playing his socks off.

I keep males together, but never of the same age, have to say I have no problems at all with my intact males, did have some trouble with a castrated one though. It would probably be better if the 2 pups were left together all the time and then they would settle into a more normal behaviour of some play, some sleep and some eating, as it is I don't supose he understands what is going on, and would not think of living with you as being home.
