Hi
I have a 4 yr old  male staffie and i am due to collect my new puppy a week on sun (also a staffie) i am just wondering about the first night should i leave them together? my boy usually sleeps downstairs wherever he  wants! i was going to put the pup in the kitchen, but is is best for her to be on her own or with him?
Thanks

I would be very careful when introducing a new puppy to an older dog...always supervising them very carefully. Are they both males? Regardless, I would advise putting the puppy in it's own crate. As long as the older dog isn't hostile or frightening to the pup, I'd let them be in the same room, but seperate and with the pup protected by a crate. Sometimes the exsisting dog isn't too thrilled with the intrusion of a new dog. Sometimes it's best to let the pup be in a crate in your bedroom. Congrats on the new pup!

George my staffie is very friendly with other dogs he gets on very well with my mums whippet pup he also adores my 3 house rabbits!!!!!
The pup im getting is female
The idea is about putting the pup in the crate with george in the same room sounds good!

I would definitely keep them seperate through the night. The adult dog is bound to get fed up first, and want time out from a young pup, no matter how well they seem to get on.
A crate in the same room as the older dog would probably be the best bet. Then at least the pup won't feel totally alone.

Gus my eldest, sleeps up stairs and Libs the pup sleeps in a crate downstairs
They seem quite happy with this arrangement- wouldnt leave them alone together,  as although my eldest is very tolerant of pup she can be an annoying nuisance to him at times - wanting to playfight and nip etc.
Besides they will need to get used to sleeping apart when the female is in season

Hi well night 1 and Sal is asleep in kitchen and Pup in utility room both asleep 1/2 hour of crying howling from Pup now silence for over and hour now :)
I would say pup in cage or something similar like another "safe" room so the older dog can get some peace.
Also this way they won't get to dependant on each other - like needing the other to be there all the while.
