Hi peeps
I know this is not strictly a breeding question but it is a womens one so hope you don't mind! My bitch is due in season any time now and has gone off her food a little, but the worry is she has for three days running at about 4pm had a panic attack (panting ,shaking ,teeth chattering and then she runs off and gets on my bed and it takes a while for her to calm down) Nothing has happened to her at all, and as far as I know she has had no upsets with the other dogs, they are very much a family. The first day I spent ages talking to her but she took hours to calm down, yesterday when she started this I took them all for a walk and she forgot about it within a couple of minutes, but today I had to stay home My old girl had major surgery and needs constant watching. Anyway it took sasha ages to calm down I tried to ignore her but she got worse so I let her on sofa with me and again five mins and she had got over it. Does anyone know if this is hormones or the like as I have never had this before, and am worried that she is turning into a wreck, what should I do, my heart tells me to give her sympathy and my head tells me to treat as normal and she will get over it.
Thanx

Hi Kim sounds to me like a mild fit or convulsion . so to ease your mind I think you should get a vet to look at her.
best wishes Marie

Thanks , I seem to have a standing Monday appt at vet anyway and will mention, but I as thought it strange that only started the last few days and leading up to a season it could be hormones! Another thought is as I said my old girl has had major sugery ( spleen and two tumors removed) I did wonder if it could be a sympathy thing like twins?

Hi
Just an up date, vet thinks its me thats now off my rocker after telling him what i told you lot. Anyway she has not done it since i wrote before and vet thinks could be hormones, but said with big grin on face which means there is nothing wrong with her love but would not be so sure about the owner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

funny how that is the answer from vets and doctors when they dont know what is the problem . Years ago when I was raising my children two of them were chronic asthmatic . thankfully they grew out of it at 14 yrs. but Lorraine used to turn blue I would call an ambulance in case she needed oxygen as she always did . no nebalisers then . One patronising doctor used to say while patting me on the back now now mommy I think you are too anxious, I mean how calm can you be with an asthmatic daughter turning blue I ask you. the same thing with a collie I had . the vet [not my present vet] always smiled and winked when I was explaining that the dog sort of shuddered and went stiff, and then came right again. I used to feel like a fool .
I could not stand it anymore and went off to chance another vet , he listened to what I was saying and took some tests . Cutting a long story short the dog was in the first stages of kidney failure. So dont worry Kim if the vet thinks there is something wrong with you , you are entitled to worry about your dog , you saw it he dident . best wishes Mari
