My dobe is nearly six months he only has his dried food, treats and sometimes chicken - ham etc.  I was just reading the topic about "floor wipes" and they were talking about bones, what sort of bones would you say my dobe can have.  My neighbour gave him a chewy thing the other day and he was quiet for about an hour in the garden chewing away, but I didn't really know what to give him.

You must differentiate between Raw Meaty Bones designed for consumption eg chicken wings, thighs, drumsticks, carcases and those designed for recreation ie to be gnawed, sucked and chewed such as knuckle bones shin bones etc.  With the latter the dogs just suck the marrow out and strip the cartilage; once that is removed it is best to chuck them. Bones must ALWAYS be fed raw NEVER cooked.

Hee hee my vet told me I musn't give the dog raw bones because they can splinter.....normally take her advice but that seems to have gone in one ear and straight out the other!!! Especially as she then mentioned rawhide chews as an alternative....I know everybody has their own opinion on these things but personally prefer to steer clear of rawhide and stick to bones meself.

I find dogs can literally stick to rawhide, so we stick to bones too :)

Bess once threw up a lump of rawhide just after having raw liver and yoghurt for tea...the whole lot all over the kitchen floor!   We stick to just bones now too ;) :D
