Does any one have any experience of pups with this. I have a lovely little puppy who is two weeks old full of himself but about 1/3 smaller than the smaller pups and about 1/2 the size of the biggies. I have been giving him bottles a couple of times a day to boost him up and he has not been fetching any milk back up and he is gaining weight but I am worried about him. Someone suggested a possible mega esophagus.
any advice or ideas?
Hi, I recently had a litter with one huge pup, two middle size and one tiny, they stayed like this for a couple of weeks but then the smallest seemed to grow quickest. By six weeks they all more or less weighed the same give or take a few grammes. It put my mind at rest weighing them weekly. I've also had a litter where two pups started the same size but the dog was much bigger than the bitch by eight weeks. As long as they're healthy and eating well I wouldn't worry too much. :)
I had 2 'tiny' pups, and 2 'huge' pups in my last litter. The 2 little ones grew up to be bigger than the 2 biggest. The other pups in the litter were average, and grew normally. Don't worry, they all grow at different times but should end up ok. :)

If he's feeding and putting on weight and not bringing up the food then I wdn't. think that it is mega oesophagus. Let's face it we are all born at different weights and sometimes the smallest of us can end up the biggest.
A litter that I had nearly 4 years ago there was one big boy and one small boy, the small one is now the biggest in the litter and the biggest equal to the other 4 in the litter, so you can just never tell.

We had a pup who was much smaller than all the rest from our last litter. He looked nothing like the others - a real runt. BUT we saw 'Tiny Tim' a few weeks ago and he is gorgeous -the best of the bunch - he's easily as big as the others, has a fantastic coat and bone to die for - I wish I kept him now !.
They all grow at different rates and even the smallest do eventually catch up.

They have all just opened their eyes and guess who was the first one to find his way out of the nest. He is definately gaining weight just not as much as the other little demons. I shall just have to boast him up when he starts on solids

Is this the litter from the mating you were talking about when you say your stud will not eat, if so, then he does need some medical help he should not be off his food all this while. Think you had better get him checked out asap in case he has something wrong that could be passed to the dam or the pups.

No he is just been hunger strike for over a week. God if he hadnt eaten since then he would be dead. He actually got two firsts at a champ show last week so he isnt looking that bad but he has today decided he is going to eat albeit a packet of biscuits. His mum is the dam of this litter so no conection whatsoever. Thanks for your concern though.
