Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Fractured femur and supplements?
- By Guest [gb] Date 21.07.04 15:11 UTC
My 11 week old puppy has fractured his femur :( He has to have crate rest for the next 3 - 4 weeks (the vets said it is a green fracture - it hasn't gone all the way through the bone but it will break very easily if he so much as even knocks it, so we have to keep him away from our other dog as playing will easily break it) Has anyone had any experience of this and has the dog recovered fully afterwards? How could this affect his hip score (as he was bought to show and maybe to be used at stud if he is a good enough specimen of the breed). We were also hoping to work him when he was old enough :(

Also are there any supplements available which will aid healing? (preferably in liquid form as he's not very keen on tablets :( )

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep his mind stimulated? We were due to start puppy socialisation classes this week - but can't go now and he'll be 15 -16 weeks old when we can take him out so he's going to miss out on vital socialisation :( Socialisation is very important with his breed as the males are known to be dog aggressive :(

the homoeopathic treatment symphytum (comfrey) is good for broken bones.
