Any help would be useful, Dougal is a one year old Havanesse which we have had for five months. In all this time he has never been that sure of my husband, He now seems to be getting worse, wont take treats from him or even walk past him, strange as it seems he wont even look at him just turns his head away. We have tried hubby feeding then etc, dougal would rathr starve. Just dont understand it, only thing I can think is when we first got Dougal , hubby was away for two weeks from the dya dudes arrivied. Any help please.

How old was Dougal when your husband came back?  It could be that this happened around the time of a particular stage in a puppies life when anything new or strange can have a long lasting effect, which is why it's important to socialise puppies with all kinds of people right from the earliest possible day.  It may also have something to do with what was done to help Dougal get over his fear........  If he was 'babytalked' into intereacting with your husbnad, he may well see that as reward for the behaviour, and so repeat it.  I think you need to go right back to basics (and this may well include your husband feeding him, but not watching over him while he eats) and have your husband sit with a supply of treats BUT only reward the dog when he comes towards your husband of his own accord - no babying, cajoling, sweet talking etc - the dog has to make the decision..

think this is were we might have been going wrong, we do tend to molly coddle dougal a little. I will try what you suggest and see how we go. Les was only away for 14 days, so Dudes was about seven months at the time. He is still quite shy around strangers (dudes not Les) But he is going to classes now so hopfully we are on the road to recovery. Thanks for your suggestions
