I had a lovely couple come and visit me and the dogs on Saturday, by train from London with their littlel Sheltie bitch, to ascertain if Elkhounds would be the breed for them.
No idea if they have decided for or against, (my litter had all gone to their new homes a few days before) but said that what I did was most useful to them, as it has proven to be to several others some who have come into the breed, and some who have not.
I had them and their dog meat my mob of five ranging from 10 months to 12 years (only thing is I don't have any males). We then went for a walk on the lead, and once at the Country park they all went off lead (including my Jozi who can be a tad choosey as to when she will return). they were able to see how they were around other dogs, people, how far ahead was their confortable range (their sheltie never webt mnore than 12 feet away!), so they could see how an averagely brought up bitch of vary9ing age coiuld be, from the good to the not so good.
I do udually suggest that anyone seriously consider5ing a amle visit someone wityh males to get a real feel for them too.
In this way I feel that whatever breed they go for they will have a better idea what they are letting themselves in for.
