Hi all
As some of you may remember we bought a bullmastiff pup 3 weeks ago, she was checked by a vet a few days after we got her and she had vaginitis. Anyway the vet put her on a course of anitbotics for 10 days which she finished on Wednesday. I had noticed that she was still a bit mucky down below but she didn't have any of the symptoms that she had before so i put it down to her not being able to wash herself propaply yet. Then last night my older pup started to clean her again (she done this the last time).
I have had a look this morning and she has pus coming from the small hole in her vulva, also one of my kids saw her wee earlier and they said that she had pus 'hanging'. Again she isnt sick and doesnt seem bothered by it.

I havent got the money to take her to vets again untill hubby gets paid on the 26th (obviously if she has to go desperatly i will have to find it), i also dont want her on antibotics all the same.

Can dogs build up their own immunitys to this sort of thing as humans do?
And do you think there is anything i can do from home to help?
The pus is a clear very light yellow colour, she isn't sore, has no redness, no temperture, is still eating and drinking normally.

Thank you

Debbie

Hi Debbie

It is impossible to answer your question, we are not vets and cannot see your pup.  Do you not have insurance - this is normally supplied and always recommended with/for a new pup.  If you sent off her transfer of registration to the KC within the first ten days of purchase you should be covered by their insurance for 6 weeks

Hi
Yes we do have insurance but as she fell ill with in the 2 weeks of taking it out she now excluded for this infection as it is recurring. As for taking the KC insurance we decided against it as if she got any condition within the 6 weeks she would have an exclusion on her insurance for that condition, we use direct line for our other dog and thats what we choice for the pup aswell.
I have spoken to my vet and she has said that they will see her if needed and i can pay when we get paid.
I have 4 children, one of which gets a condition called balinitis (not sure of spelling), anyway the infection that the pup has is like the infection that my son gets. He used to get it every 2 weeks or so and the dr would put him on antibiotics, after his 5-6 course of it i dedcided tostop taking him and see if the infection would clear on its own once his imunitiy to it kicked in, and it did he hasnt had it for 6 months now.
I told my vet this and asked if i could do the same for the pup and she has said yes aslong as i keep an eye for any changes and to take her in if needed. So thats what i am doing, cleaning the area 4-5 times a day with cooled boiled water and hoping that she will figh it herself.

Thanks Debbie
