Hi everyone and before anyone says it I know I am paranoid but took max to shops today nearly broke my back and one of the locals said to me blimey that puppy is fat! He is 11 weeks today and is 10kg. He has a lot of spare skin and massive feet so I think he is going to be big built and his head is nearly twice the size of his 2 sisters that we see. I know you cant possibly tell without seeing him but does 10kg sound reasonable for a male lab at 11 weeks? I would rather he didnt get overweight as its easier to keep it off than put in on then lose it (i should know this!!)

I've probably been around Labradors as much as most but to tell the truth I really cannot visualise 10kg of Lab puppy! I never weigh them! It is all done by touch and eye. A puppy of this age does not have the firmness of flesh yet for me to really describe how he should feel. Even overweight you would still feel the ribs. Their skin always appears 4 sizes too big so don't go trying to fill it up yet or he'll go pop ;) Actually, I always aim to stay slightly on the slim side when comparing my puppies with other peoples.
Best wishes, John

My current lab pup was about 8.5 KG at 14 weeks. My guess is that she is going to be quite small and lightly built. I saw her brother at about that age and based on her weight would guess that he would have been 10kg+.
I also remember having a dog pup weighed at the vets last year at about 9.5 kg, at puppy jab time.
So 10kg at 11 weeks sounds a good size but not excessive, however, obviously that depends on how much frame he's got to carry the weight on.

oh he does have a big frame and he has a really big head and massive paws. We weighed him last night and he is now 11.4kg and 11 weeks!!!!!! I may have to have the front door widened for when he is an adult. My 6yr old son is really excited as thinks max is going to be the next 'clifford the big red dog'!!!
